I have used Asset on a Windows Home Server with Linn DS units for over 2 years and am very happy with it.
I am using the paid for Release 3 version.
However my music collection has expanded so that I now have about 1.3 TB on the WHS and I have used another server to store an additional 1TB.
Asset has managed to index both units and reports a total of 86,760 tracks in 6,511 albums.
I used to use Plugplayer to control the DS units but it cannot seem to cope with this amount of data and crashes.
I have been using Linn's Kinsky software (running on my Windows 7 PC) but although it works ok, It takes a significant time to find the next track in a playlist and for albums like Europe72 by The Grateful Dead where consecutive tracks lead straight into each other (ie there should be no interruption in the music) this is no longer working even though these tracks are on the same server as asset.
I appreciate that this is probably a Linn software issue rather than an Asset issue but given that i can't find any other software that works would welcome advice.
Would getti8ng a larger server with all the music files and Asset together help? I still have a lot of music not yet loaded onto the servers so any advice on a very large home server that would work well with asset would be welcome
Should I subdivide my music files somehow so that seek times are not an issue.
Thanks for any advice
John
