    Asset handling multi disc records

    Dear all,

Have the registered version of Asset since last week, as I bought a Linn DS this was a logical thing to do :-)

Ran into some stuff. I have multi disc albums. Ripping with dBpoweramp, they are all tagged and put in different file folders. File naming according to [artist] - [album] ([year])\[track] - [title]

    Example:
    U2 - Albumname (2011), disc 1\01 - Songname.m4u
    U2 - Albumname (2011), disc 2\01 - Another songname.m4u
    U2 - Albumname (2011), disc 3\01 - Yet another songname.m4u

Now in all my uPnP control point software (on android and iOS devices) I see that those folders will be merged into one containting all. I flipped through Asset's setting and played with them. I don't want it merged. How to do..?

Another question: If I add a branch in the browsing tree with 'Artist', the entire media collection is forgotten: 0 tracks are then listed and I can't play media anymore. Have to reset eh browing tree to default value and re-add the watched folders in order to have Asset re-recognize that there are files that can be played. Is this a known bug?

Re: Asset handling multi disc records

That's due to the tagging - you need to make yourself comfortable with the "secret of tagging": the different tags and their impact. Asset does analyze the tags, not the folder structure.
So, if the tag "album" for all three albums is the same (albumname), then the discs will be merged into one.
You have two options to distinguish the discs:
a.) set the discnumber-tag to 1, 2 or 3, then Asset will still display ONE album, but the tracks will be sorted (first Disc 1, track 1, 2, 3...., then disc 2...)
b.) rename the album-tag for each album like albumname (disc 1), albumname (disc 2) etc., then Asset will display 3 different albums.

      Hi,

Many thanks for replying to my thread. I've added a screenshot; your suggestion was already taken into account. The file naming and the ID tags match, as the one uses the other to be made. A screenie:

      It still results in 1 album, with track 1 1 1 2 2 2 3 3 3 etc from all albums combined. I would have no problems with them being combined, but the play order would be disc1 track 1 2 3 4 5 disc 2 track 1 2 3 4 5 disc 3 track 1 2 3 4 5 etc.

        hmmm
        Try the following and rescan:
        use disc/disctotal in Discnumber-Tag
so for the first disc, enter 1/3, for the second one ente 2/3 etc.
Also, it is important, how you configure Asset's sorting options (in the Asset configuration) and the sorting (1,2,3, A,B,C etc.) in your remote control application.

Off hand (sitting at another computer right now) I think I remember, that in Asset options there was something like add discnumber for the display (or similar, sorry, can't remember that clearly)

Re: Asset handling multi disc records

Make sure the option 'Multi-Disc Albums Show as 'Album, Disc x' is checked.

Also your disc number (in the ID Tags) needs a disc count, so disc needs to be:

          1/3
          2/3
          3/3

otherwise asset does not know disc 1 is part of a multi set

Happy to confirm this did the trick! Was not so clear to me that was required, but great to have support on this forum..

Re: Asset handling multi disc records

My multi-disc albums don't appear to be working as I expect in Asset. It lists all track 1s first, then all tracks 2s, etc. I have the 'Multi-Disc Albums show as [disc] [track]...' option enabled.
My files are FLACS, so they have a DISCNUMBER and a TOTALDISCS tag. If I use the 'Multi-Disc Albums show as Album, Disc x' option instead, I get two albums, but that's obviously not what I want...

Asset Control. Just tried it with foobar2000 as the control point and that seems to display the album tracks in the correct order.

Thanks, I tried that but it didn't make any difference. I restarted Asset UPnP, I don't need to clear and re-scan too, do I..?

No need to rescan. That option when removed should allow the disc number to appear in the Tags, it could be Asset control removes them its self...

Sorry, I'm just new to Asset, and I'm getting mad about this problem. I can't get it to work...

Whatever I do, I get the wrong sorting of a three disc album. It shows just all the tracks of the three discs within one Album (thats what I want !), but the tracks are always sorted by track number, so I get

                          track 1 of disc 1
                          track 1 of disc 2
                          track 1 of disc 3
                          track 2 of disc 1
                          track 2 of disc 2
                          track 2 of disc 3
                          ......
                          cont.

I set the disc/disc total tag as advised, but how (and where ??) can I tell Asset to do a sorting by first disc and then tracks ???

                          thanks in advance
