    Album Artist - Parsing

    Asset Upnp parses the Album Artist field if separated by semi-colons. Fantastic!
    But, it doesn't always list them all in the database.
    For example, from the following only the first 4 names get parsed:

    Vinay , Ramón ; Weber , Ludwig ; Mödl , Martha ; Hotter , Hans ; Uhde , Hermann ; Malaniuk , Ira ; Bayreuth Festival Orchestra ; Bayreauth Festival Chorus

    The fourth listing ends at character 64.

    Is Asset limited by size of a variable used to hold the full content of the field while it parses it? Or will it only parse a limited number of artists in the field?

    Asset can only hold the first 4 artists, this was a design decision as each extra artist proportionally slowed the database down.

      Would it be possible in a future release to make the limit a configurable option and make the current limit of 4 the default?

        It is not possible, sorry.

          Re: Album Artist - Parsing

          This discussion was about parsing the "Album Artist".
          It appears to me that Asset will also only load 1 value (at least when delimited with a semi-colon) from the "Artiist" tag.
          Is that correct?

            No, Asset can handle 4 artists per track, but they have to be tagged correctly, if for example using FLAC the artists should be stored as

            ARTIST=artist1
            ARTIST=artist2

            not ARTIST=artist1; artist2

            as this is against the tagging standard. dBpoweramp would show the tag as 'artist1; artist2' when editing, but will store correctly internally.

              Thanks Spoon!
              So 4 artists for "ALBUM ARTIST" and 4 artists for "ARTIST".
              I'll check some with meta_flac tonight to see how the tag editor I use is storing both those tags when semi-colons are used as delimiters.
              If I put "BLOW , JOE ; DOE , JANE" in the ALBUM ARTIST tag then both appear as separate values in the ALBUM ARTIST listings in Asset, but if I put "BLOW , JOE ; DOE , JANE" in the ARTIST tag only the first name shows up in the ARTIST listings in Asset. If what you're saying is true, then the editor I use stores the two tags differently, which is odd.

                You would need the option 'Contributing Artists with Main Artists' enabled to see the 2nd artist.

                  AHA!
                  And do I need to do a full refresh after changing that setting?

                    Only if Asset asks to automatically.

                      That worked.
                      Rescan not necessary.
