    strange filesize issue

    I'd need your help again...
I am backing up my music-collection (it's on a Windows Home Server) to an external harddisc regularly. Just to not loose anything in case of a server-crash.
I am synchronizing the files with Allway Sync - I had no issues, so far.
Today, Allway Sync gave me warnings for my entire collection.
Either, dates of the music-files differ (on the server, ALL music-files have the date 05.10.2010) or, even worse, also file-sizes differ: on the server, for example, on of the files in question is 40 Kb SMALLER than on the backup disc!
The only files, that do not differ in size (but still are dated 05.10.2010 on the server) are entirely non-music-files such as coverart, pdfs, liner-notes etc.

I am sure, that I have not touched, altered or edited these music-files.
The only thing that comes into my mind regarding the date-issue is, that I could have added an additional disc to the server-pool around that date. But that should not alter any files, right - it should just create more space...

So, any explanation for that???? Is Asset maybe changing something in the tags of the files, when I do a full rescan? I can't imagine that, but I would most appreciate any hint or advise...

Asset only accesses the files as read only

      Thanks

anyone any idea, what might have happened? I have never experienced this before.
When synchronizing my backup, not only new files are copied from the server to the backup-location, but also files are "updated" - so it could happen, that all those (many) affected files are either copied from the backup location back to the server, or the ones from the server overwrite the backed-up ones.
Since I cannot distinguish, why the files differ, I am worried, that I might then overwrite "proper" files with "faulty" ones. Right now, the function of a backup is not really met and endangered....

Look at the last modified date for the files in question.
