With Apple airTunes direct streaming from a PC gets more and more common.
With Twonky Beam http://www.twonkyvision.de/products/twonkybeam a solution for direct UPNP streaming from the Browser exists.
Also in Asset-UPNP (With Windows 7) can capture the PC sound output and stream it to a UPnP player. This is possible but not very handy to use. Still an external controller is needed to playback that source on UPNP devices.
The missing link is a standalone PC software like Twonky Beam which is not limited to the browser! It should include the UPNP-Controller so the renderer can be selected. It should capture the PC sound output of Windows-7 and streams it to any UPnP player. Capture should be done in 24Bit up to 192kHz to satisfy the Audiphiles.
I bet such a tool will sell in quantities even if you ask 50$ for it. It would be much simpler to setup than a complete UPNP-streaming-environment and may be sufficient for a lot of people.
Please think about it!
