    Oppo BDP-83SE and Asset UPnP

I have just downloaded and installed Asset UPnP based on Oppo Support's recommendation. I want to listen to hiz rez 24/192 and 24/96 FLAC files through transcoding and streaming on my Oppo player. However, when I checked L24, Oppo did not see the files. When I unchecked L24, it saw them but the playback was with very frequent interruptions (unbearable for listening). I am not sure if Asset was even streaming 24/192 when I unchecked L24. Of course, I have no maximum bit/frequency set in the advanced config.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to what I should do to listen to 24/192 and 24/96 FLAC files from my Oppo? I am really disappointed after trying for several hours. I'd appreciate your help on this matter.

    Regards,
    Okan

Re: Oppo BDP-83SE and Asset UPnP

Which firmware version is on the Oppo? Also, is FLAC as LPCM set in the Asset UPnP Configuration: Advanced Settings?

The oppo does not support l24 as a recognised audio type. The 16 lpcm should not be broken, it suggests network issues (are you using wireless)?

Re: Oppo BDP-83SE and Asset UPnP

Thank you for your prompt replies. My Oppo has the latest official firmware loaded. I have set FLAC to play as LPCM. When I set L24 Oppo does not even see the tracks. When I uncheck L24 Oppo sees the tracks but can only play 16 bit tracks properly; 24 bit tracks play with interruptions (very frequent and very annoying).

Does this mean that I will not be able to listen to 24/192 and 24/96 tracks at all from Oppo? Is there anyone out there that has successfully set up hi rez tracks and Oppo plays them?

Thank you in advance for all your help.

Re: Oppo BDP-83SE and Asset UPnP

By the way, I am also posting below Oppo support's earlier reply to me when I inquired about hi rez tracks playing from Oppo.

"The DSP in the player will not support FLAC, APE, WAV or other lossless audio formats. The best solution is to use DLNA streaming.

You will want to use Asset UPnP. This program will convert all of your audio files into high resolution PCM over DLNA.

After you install Asset UPnP, change the Asset Running Mode to "Local Account", then go to Advance Setting and "Edit". Ensure that "Force LPCM" is selected and NO maximum bit/frequency are set."

I was under the impression that Oppo would play 24 bit tracks.

Re: Oppo BDP-83SE and Asset UPnP

I have Asset UPnP streaming 24bit/96khz flac files successfully to my Oppo BDP-83. However, you need yo install the latest beta firmware:

Release date: August 24, 2010, Main Version: BDP83-52-0816B

In the Asset UPnP Configuration: Advanced Settings do the following:
            1. Uncheck the L24 (24 Bit LPCM) supported setting
            2. Set FLAC as LPCM

            Good luck.

Is the latest Beta firmware a must? Are you sure about this? Otherwise, I do not want to upgrade the firmware.

                Yes.

I find the firmware upgrade via a USB thumb drive a simple operation which I have performed many times, if you follow the Oppo instructions on their website.

However, it is your choice and responsibility to upgrade or not.

Do I still want to do this if I also use my Asset to play FLAC files through my WD TV Live? I suspect not.

I thought Asset already "knows" to stream LPCM to Oppo without my setting it so.

                  Any suggestions welcome.

I am sorry to inquire but is the streaming you have really 24/96khz even though L24 is unchecked? Do you think Asset is down-converting it to 16 bits from 24 bits since it is unchecked?

I am currently at a loss and hitting the dead end with the whole issue.

If l24 is unchecked, then 16 bit lpcm is streamed.

If Oppo does not support l24; is it correct to assume that I will NOT be able to listen to 24/96 or 24/192 tracks at their original high resolution depths with Oppo and Asset together? Can you please confirm this?

My best chance is to listen to them at 16 bit resolution depth as opposed to 24 bits. Can you please confirm this?

If that is the case, the best approach might be to burn DVD-Audio discs from FLACs to get the 24/96 or 24/192 resolutions. Is that correct?

                        Regards,

Re: Oppo BDP-83SE and Asset UPnP

I want to thank all of you for providing clues and replies as I was struggling to get Oppo and Asset work together.

At the end, I had it working thanks to replacing my wireless connection with a wireline Ethernet connection (bought a cable and hooked it up through Ethernet from my PC). Apparently, wireless was the bottleneck during streaming; my PC could not keep up with transcoding and also shipping out packets through wireless. After wireline Ethernet connection, it was streaming both the 16 bit and the 24 bit flac files however only through 16 bits streaming. I never got Asset to work with L24 checked.

Hence, the moral of the story is that Oppo and Asset do not pair up nicely to work at 24 bits streaming as it was indicated by spoon in one of the earlier replies (I thank him and the others for all his comments and support through my struggles). So I will try to convert hi rez FLAC files to DVD-Audio as my last resort to really listen to them in hi rez format.

                          Thank you all ....

                          Okan

If you find a way to successfully burn DVD-Audio disks with 24bit, 96KHz flac files, please post the solution.

                            Many thanks and good luck.

Just as a wrap-up, I wanted to indicate that I have used the HD-Audio Solo Ultra DVD Authoring software for authoring DVD Audio discs from flac files. It works very good and I enjoy hi rez audio from my Oppo.

                              Thank you all once again.
