PMPO 250 watts but speaker output only 3 watts?

Hi,

I've always wondered, since my speakers say it uses 250 watts, (that's 2.5 100 watt light bulbs worth of energy and they are usually very hot to touch).

PMPO 250 watts but speaker output only 3 watts?

What is PMPO, and does it really use 250 watts? I'm sure that laptop speakers only use 3 watts never 250 watts.

Regards.
