    Acessing tags programatically

I am using MediaTomb as my UPnP server, and it allows customization of the container sorting - e.g., Genre -> Artist -> Album, etc. - though Javascript. I want to extract the "Album Artist" tag, but internally, I don't know what frame in the id3v2 spec it is being written to - for instance, TOAL is defined in the spec as Album name, TOFN is the filename, etc. I am thinking that the Artist and Album Artist are written to TPE1 or TPE2.

    Is this documented somewhere?

These are all .flac files I ripped myself with r13.

Hope my question makes sense - thanks.

Spoon, need to ask a follow-up - is that valid for .flacs, as well as MP3s? The TPE2 frame returns the correct info for MP3s, but not flac.

        Thanks,

Are your FLAC files using ID3v2 tags or Vorbis Comments? Check dBpoweramp Configuration, since you ripped the files via dMC.

Hmm, it says Tag Creation = Vorbis Comments, ID3V2 Version = v2.3, Vorbis Comment Mapping #7 = Album Artist to AlbumArtist (if that last matters).

So, in that case, what would the frame be? I didn't realize this option existed.

More to the point, what are the advantages or disadvantages of each? When I changed a couple of .flac to ID3v2 tags, my UPnP server recognized the tags, and I was able to sort my containers properly. More surprisingly, it fed all tags to my player, which it didn't before - but, unfortunately, my player wouldn't actually play them. So it broke the .flac playback compatibility.

              Thanks.

Flac really should be used with Vorbis Comments (AlbumArtist - no space: seems to be the standard).
