Just ordered the Rio Karma mp3 player. Cost? 190USD. Go newegg! Now I just have to find a FM modulator so I can use it in my car.. any recommendations?

But yea. Why the Karma?
1. Ogg support. All of my music is in Ogg Vorbis format, so this was a must
2. Capacity. I have about 6GB of CD rips I want to keep with me, so small was out.
3. Reviews. All the reviews I have read about the Karma were good, save for a bad batch of HDDs they had. Yes, I plan to update the firmware as SOON as I get it.
4. Look. Let's face it: the player looks cool.

Now I'll just have to put aside the $25 for Sveta....

Found an FM modulator, haven't tried it yet. Updated the firmware and loaded my music collection in Ogg onto it. Almost 5GB of music. Also, the Rio Music Manager doesn't seem to be too bad. I'll download and try Sveta, but might just stick with the RMM.

Now to get used to the darn earbuds...

Also Gapless Ogg, FLAC, and MP3 support! I love that part!

How do you like your FM Modulator?
You know there are auxillary input devices that can allow you to plug straight into your car stereo...even factory stereos. They say the sound quality is way better. I've been trying to have one put in my SUV but no one makes anything that will work for a 2002 Trailblazer. (I think i'm gonna have to sell my car) :(

Here are some manufacturers:
Auto sound (http://www.custom-autosound.com/)
peripheral (http://peripheralelectronics.com/)
usaspec (http://www.usaspec.com/index.htm)

Just buy some regular headphones, those darn earbuds will hurt your cartilage, and you don't ever get used to them. The only time they feel good is when you take them out of your ears :D

Actually, I've mostly gotten used to them.
As for the FM modulator, it's fine but I keep having to change the frequency cause new radio stations keep cropping up. I've LOVE to figure out how to plug it directly into my car's CD player. I'll look at those links and see what I can find.

Don't use the earbuds, LtData, PLEASE don't! (Notice the boldness used to emphasize that!)

Earbuds can really hurt your head. The fact that you've "gotten used to it" probably means you've damaged something in your head. Get REGULAR headphones. Or turn the volume down. Just don't use the earbuds.

was the karma the one that had gapless playback? that's been my biggest beef with the ipod. i've been kind of scared about getting something else, since I'm already at 11 gb on my pod and i haven't seen anything else that comes in a 40 gig size or better (but i haven't really looked that hard). after the price i paid for the iPod, i haven't been real anxious to drop it anytime soon, but $190 is a tempting price...

Does the Nomad do gapless playback? That's the key factor that will lead me to switch. I wish I'd checked around and found out about the gapless issue before shelling out 400 bucks...

Remind me to give Rio a medal... The Ethernet connectivity to the Karma is ingenious. I just have to run a .jar (Java) file and I can upload files to my Karma while in any OS that has Java (read: nearly all).
