What are you using to rip your cd?
Is it dMC Audio CD Input or is it just plain dMC?
The cd may have some copy-protection so in dMC Audio CD Input you could try to disable Table of contents detection (Options >Standard CD player emulation).
Sometimes dMC used through WIndows Explorer directly on the cd-rom may work better.
Please write back and explain in detail what you are trying to do so we can get a clear picture of your situation. Also mention your OS and type of cd drive.

after having finished the progress a new window appears with the error message:

no that doesn't work too
Have you tried going to Audio CD Configuration (Start>All Programs>dBpowerAMP Music Converter>Configuration>dMC Audio Configuration), and setting the "CD Communication" setting to "2000/NT Built-in (limited)"?
If that does not work you may want to check the Support site to see if therre is information for your particular operating system here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc-support-audio-cd.htm
If there is nothing to help you there, please let us know what operating system you are using and what version of dBpowerAMP Music Converter you are using.

no there arn't any hints to destroy my problem....
windows 200/nt built in is also activated...
i use windows xp
and version 4.2.1.2 of the dbpowerAMP cd ripper
and version 4.2.1.2 of the dbpowerAMP cd ripper
That would be your version of dMC Audio CD Input. You can find your version of dMC (dBpowerAMP Music Converter) in dMC Configuration (Start>All Programs>dBpowerAMP Music Converter>Configuration>dMC Configuration).

you mean this?
Release 10.1
Yes, that is what I mean.
You wouldn't have happened to install Service Pack 2 for XP recently?
In any case, I would advise you to thusly:
1. Check to see if you can convert any files you already have installed to a different format. Let us know if you can or cannot.
2. Make sure that you do not have AccurateRip enabled unless you have previously configured your drives to work with AccurateRip (this can be activated by going to the Audio CD Input screen and clicking on the Options Button-the list of various options is actually a set of menus for enabling or changing different options).
3. If #2 does not apply (it is already turned off) or if you turn it off and it makes no difference, uninstall and reinstall dMC/dBpowerAMP Music Converter (if you have installed SP2, do this first).
4. If #3 does not work, try uninstalling dMC, clearing dBpowerAMP Music Converter from your Windows XP registry, reboot, and reload dMC.
This will hopefully get your problem fixed but if it does not please let us know what results you get from the above actions.
Best wishes,

Old ones mainly.
i have 2 new ones
Test 1:
Set up to rip a cd. Click on the arrow next to the button that says "Rip". Select "Rip To" from the menu and then select "Test Conversion (No Write)". Then click on the Rip button. Will the program test convert or not?
Test 2:
Take an audio file already on your computer. See if you can convert it to a different format. Does that work or not?

Does dMC (instead of dMC CD Audio Input) used from Windows Explorer work for any of your tracks on the CD?
Does Windows Media Player work with your CD rom to simply play the tracks? Any other media player?

I didn't ask if you can simply hear the CD in the CD rom. That can be done just with headphone plugged into the front of the cd-rom and totally bypasses all player programs.
I asked if Windows Media Player plays it. If it doesn't, and you're indeed pointed to the proper drive, then you may need possibly to install some drivers for your device.
Yours was the error referring to "scratched disk", correct?
I see your drives are both scsi drives. This may be an indicator of a setting you need to make for dMC (either dMC CD Audio Input or the explorer-driven dMC) to be able to read the cd. Or another driver is needed.
If Windows media Player can play it, then click on Tools > Devices and select the drive you have currently playing the CD and see what information appears there. Please make sure you are not mistaken in your drive selection. With 2 cd drives it's easy to be mixed up as to which is which.
Do you see the tracks listing in Explorer? What about in dMC CD Audio Input? In that case at least you are pointed to the correct drive. Otherwise use the Options button and select the correct drive. Also click Advanced. You have a bunch of different settings there, you'll have to try them all in order and see if you stumble onto the one that works.
Also if you have Powerpack click on the button (over on the far right of dMC Cd Audio Input screen, below Year) and see what you have there. Look in the area of Rip to RAM and tell us what you have. Try to vary settings and see what happens.
It's important to try with just one setting change at a time and go back to original settings if that doesn't work, otherwise it's going to be messy and very hard to figure out.
Please write back and tell us. You might consider registering so we don't get confused as to who's posting what problem.
I am going to suggest that you revisit the Audio CD Input window, click on Options and look at the section called "Drive Options".
First set "Spinup for" to 5 seconds (I'm being very arbitrary here, I'm assuming that this will be long enough if this will make a difference).
Now see if you can rip from the drive you set.
If this does not help, go back to Audio CD Input>Options>Drive Options and lower the ripping speed (say to 8x or 12x).
Now see if you can rip from that drive.
Please let me know if either of these makes a difference (and if so, which).
Best wishes,
Bill Mikkelsen

no it doesnt't help...when i set it to 5 sec,it runs slower, but in the end it's the same...the same error came
could it be,that my cd rom drives aren't able to rip cds...because the SCSI or so
but i think i have ripped cds with this cd rom drives yet
matthias
May I assume that you are able to play these cd's on your system (in Windows Media Player or any other player)?
What software came with your drives?
If this software is capable of ripping audio, can you do so?
Did these drives come with the computer or were they installed later?
If you cannot play a cd on these drives, I would consider either the device drivers or the actual installation of the drives as being the source of your difficulties. In Windows XP there should be a troubleshooter to help you evaluate and address problems with your drives and I suspect you should use this to see if that will help. Try going Start>Control Panel>Add Hardware. This will bring up the troubleshooting wizard for your drives. Take them one drive at a time.
Another possibility might be to uninstall and reinstall either your device drivers or the software that came with your drives (especially if these drives did not come with the computer originally). You might try checking to see if there are driver updates for each of your drives.
Best wishes and good luck.

I don't know if this could help at all.
Click on My Computer; right-click on a cd rom drive > properties > hardware; find your cd drive in the list of hardware components; highlight it and click properties; what does it say under Digital CD Playback? Is that enabled? If so, disable it and try again - using that particular cd drive. If it made no difference, change it all back the way it was.

Well, well, well....
and I thought my friend didn't know how to use my computer.
I went to listen to some songs that I had a friend put on my computer. I didn't see the rip process, so I can't say if there are were any errors along the way. Sorry. I hope to get a hold of the cd and try to recreate the problem. I however have the same problem as Matthias. The files, in the info in explorer, say that they are 1kb. However, when I put my cursor over them, the other explorer info says it's 44kb. Either way it's a corrupt file. This led to a GetPopupInfo.exe error, which is how I found this forum on google. I disabled popupinfo and got rid of that problem, but I still couldn't listen to the songs ....I'm sorry I'm rambling, but I'm trying to give as much info as possible.... Anyway, I just got this computer and copied all my old mp3s onto it. I installed a fresh version of dbpowerAMP and these were the first two songs I ripped with my new computer. On my old computer, dbpowerAMP worked so well that I took it for granted. So much so that I never even noticed that it had a start menu program. :-P Now, I'm looking at the "advanced ripping configuration program" and wondering if I need to change anything that I know nothing about. I'm looking specifically at the CD communication. Does that need to be 2000/NT Device IO or 2000/NT Built In???? I see built in and think about a laptop is why I ask. Am I way off base for what this screne is suposed to do?
Anyway the tests:
I heard my friend play the cd in media player, and I have successfully converted an mp3 to a wave with poweramp. I use winamp successfully all the time. I successfully use a seperate program to get streaming media off the internet, and into wave format. It's called AvRack. I don't know if anybody knows how it works, so I don't know if it's success rate can rule out any possible problems.
I havn't messed with anything or tried any other tests you guys mentioned yet.
Now the info I think might be key. It works on my father's laptop, his desktop, my old laptop but not this one. I have almost the same laptop as my father. I should ask him what his cd drive is. Anyway, I'm using:
a Toshiba satelite laptop with the Toshiba DVDrom SD-r2512 drive. It has service pack 1 installed on it. lets see.. I think that's all the info people were asking for, but let me know.

Sorry forgot to mention. Those two songs weren't the only ones. I since ripped a whole commercial cd and it went perfectly. Between ripping the cds nothing changed on my computer. It was done on consecutive nights, and I hadn't done anything with my computer all day. My friend's cd however, was a compilation of burned mp3s that were converted to cdaudio by some program, but I don't know what encoding program they used. Is it possible that that has anything to do with it. That's the only difference between the two cds that I can think of, besides the fact that I burned one and my friend burned the other.... maybe it was just her afterall. hehe.
It's wierd that one worked and another didn't.

Any file that is less than say 400 KB is not likely to contain any audio.
Unregistered
10-20-2004, 01:25 PM
Very true, these 1kb files definately don't contain audio. I believe that all they contain is the name of the song and windows info. These songs were suposed to be 3-5 minutes long. They were ripped using the same process I did on my old computer. I guess I'm trying to say that poweramp created the file, and then didn't actually do the rip. Sadness.
