Are you sure it's an mp3 file?

Can Windows Media Player play it?

There are some other mp3 codecs, you should download them from Codec Central.

I found the answer, thank you. Yes, it would play with media player. I somehow lost the mpeg layer-3 codec which was installed. I simply went into widows explorer....located the mpeg file, and double-clicked it to reinstall. Thank you for your help.
