    How to change tag_A value_X to tag_A value_Y

With a big existing library, what's the easiest way to change all
    genere tag = Symphonic
    to
    genere tag = Classical

I'd like to reduce the number of generes to a more managable size and to fix errors from the lookups that I didn't catch at ripe time like "Rap & Hip Hop" and "Rap & hip-hop."

I know I could edit an album at a time but was hoping for a faster more automated approach that could make changes across the library.

You would have to do some sort of scripting, I would imagine, or use the Batch Converter, select the entire tree of music, sort by the Genre category and then only select the Genres you want. Then use the [ID Tag Update] utility codec to delete the genre first, then run another conversion adding the Genre tag with a value of "Classical".

Using the Batch Converter takes about 2 hours on my library to do a sort (not the worlds fastest machine and the library is over 1000 disks). I think that your proposal would make about 4 passes over the library each of about two hours...

Should this possibly be a new feature request or should I simply be using some other tool. Or is this just an uncommon thing to do?

        www.mp3tag.de/en will do it easily.

        1. Backup your music
        2. Load all the files you want to alter into mp3tag
        3. Use the Filter dialogue (F3 key if it's not displayed)

Mediamonkey can make massive tag changes pretty easily.

Using Mediamonkey you would scan your files in to the mm library, then go to the genre node, select the genre you wish to change or remove, press F2, then either rename it or clear it and press enter to have all tracks with the applicable field updated. You can also drag and drop tracks from one node to another if you want to combine/merge them.
