-I would be grateful to know of a drive will work well with dbpoweramp reference, as would many people owning or considering buying dbpoweramp reference
-Just like most people owning or considering buying dbpoweramp reference, I don't want to know the details of drive design and software
-The main interest is standard drives: SATA, regular size
-An ideal thread would consist of one or more posts giving a recommendation with settings, zero or more posts stating that a previous recommendation is bad, and no other posts
-Best in another thread since this one has already broken the rules!

I would not mind reading a complex thread on the subject if it contained one recommendation from a respected person, but other _potential buyers_ would.

I understand that spoon may not want to give a recommendation even though he will certainly be able to. But I think if there were generally accepted recommendations more people would buy dbpoweramp reference. The information is hard to come by and seems to require specialized learning (eg about caching), whereas a big draw of dbpoweramp reference would be that it is easy to rip cds accurately, with no learning, no complex setting up, just a little money.

Just my thought. If developers/others don't think it would be good to have such a thread, just ignore.

The trouble is, if we were to recommend a drive, it would be discontinued in about 4 months...

This seems to illustrate the problem: a complex thread with no definite answers.
(It also is about IDE drives which are... special interest aka obsolete.)
The trouble is, if we were to recommend a drive, it would be discontinued in about 4 months...
Nevertheless over those 4 months you would make some money from people buying your software knowing there is a drive it will work well with with settings they are told and don't have to work out.

Other software (EAC, plextools, etc.) works well with some drives. Your software is supposed to be the best for DAE. So your software ought to work well with at least one drive at any point in time. So just name (at least) one drive... every 4 months if necessary.

Would seem to make sense in encouraging people to use your software.

Just a thought.

We would have to buy 10 drives every 4 weeks and test them, not an appealing process.
