Spoon, glad to tell you that I bought and downloaded the registered 12 as soon as I could, there's my plug for your support. Every time I try to edit a tag, I can mod the tag, go to save, and explorer gets killed and then restrarts. I know this was discussed in the beta forum, is there a fix forthcoming or is there a setting I need to tweak? Can't use that feature as of now.

What files gave you this problem? Do you have the codecs for these files installed? Did you install the codecs from Codec Central or from the dMC r12 download thread?

What is the name of your file? Do you have Unicode in the tags or filename?

Make sure you uninstall the older beta version, then reboot and install new.

I have completely uninstalled dbpoweramp before installing dMC-R12-Ref-Trial.
But my problem sounds simular as the above mentioned.
Only I am also a registred user of Total Commander and Total Commander reports following error after using the Edit Tag from context menu:

"OLE2 command failed! Either your OLE2 subsystem is damaged, or you have installed a shell extension which is uncompatible with Total commander."

I used Total Commander 6.53, 6.54a and the latest 6.56. All gave the same message trying editing flac and ape files.
When I open Total Commander I am able to edit a few tags, but after a while this error occurs. Can't find an exact moment, but it happened on 2 different computers.

I didn't have any problems with the edit tag from context menu in dMC R11.5

I hope there will be solution for this, cause I like the edit tag function.

Did you reboot after the uninstall? And when you say "completely uninstalled" did you remove all registry entries and all files?

I didn't reboot, but I deleted all files.
I will uninstall, delete all files, delete reg.keys and try again.

I'll Be Back ;)

I am back..

I
* uninstalled everything dbpoweramp related,
* deleted all files (was nothing left anyway)
* deleted 2 reg keys I found (btw: nice name spooninstall)
* rebooted
* installed dMC-R12-Ref-Trial
* tag edited around 6-10 flac-files in Total Commander with context-menu
* got the same error again.
* hope somebody has a solution.

Does it give you the error if you use Window Explorer?

Here is the process I followed after reading your posts:
1.) I uninstalled the R12 registered and all codecs, everyting dbpower related;
2.) looked thru the registry for all dbposeramp/spoon entries and deleted, with the exception of the AMG registration;
3.) rebooted;
4.)installed the registered R12;
5.) ripped a reference CD to FLAC, then context menu'd into the tag editing, tried to edit one tag, windows explorer faulted;
6.) rebooted, thinking I might need to reboot after the install;
7.) tried the context menu editing, one file (FLAC) and windows explorer faulted, also Drwatson failed :)

Most of my files are FLAC (used dbpoweramp to convert from apple lossless), so that is what I care about most. No unicode.
So, ideas?

@Tigerman you need to try without total commander, Windows Explorer please.

mgolden - which WIndows version do you have? how are you editng the tag, right click >> Edit IDTag or right click properties and then the ID Tag page, when does it crash, after editing or as soon as the page appears?

I tried it (against my will :D ) with Windows Explorer. After 2-7 edits (rightclick on file/Edit Tag, change something) Explorer.exe has a fault and has to be closed.
This happened on 2 of my computer, both win XP Pro.

As long as I don't change anything (just looking at the tag) the explorer doesn't crash.

XPSP2 fully patched. Editing done with right click, crash occurs when saving. Was able to edit 2-3 times on a single file basis, then selected multiple (9) files and on save is when explorer failed.

Tigerman and mgolden: is it a particular file format that does this, or any files? Does it do it with multiple files, single files, or both?

Try the final flac release codec:

I tried the new flac-codec, but the explorer still crashes after a few edits (mp3, ape or flac)

It had failed on a single file, but seems to have stopped. Was happening with multiple files. Always tested with FLAC. After your email I tried single and multiple APE, MP3, and FLAC. In fact, none of them are blowing explorer now. I have not rebooted since the last blowup (over a day) so perhaps that is an issue. I will reboot and try all again. It is strange how it happens randomly. I am wondering if there is something loading that conflicts. I used to have a program called mp3tagger (I think) that had audio context data on mouseover, but I believe that has been gone for almost a year. If I get another crash, I'll see if I can get the crash report and send it. I reviewed last time and it is probably too long to post, reflects all the loaded dll's etc.

I have reinstalled windows XP Pro with sp2 and updates till dec 2006 on my AMD 3000+ system with Nvidia6600 GT videocard, 1GB memory.
Only installed de VIA chipsetdrivers and videodrivers.
After installing the dMC R12 reference trial I edited 2 flac files. The Explorer still blows.
After that I uninstalled the Flac-codec, rebooted and installed the new one.
After 3 or 4 edits still a crash.
I don't know what else I can do. A solution would be appreciated.

i get exactly the same problem when editing mp3's from the context menu.if i do not change anything everything seems fine but as soon as i try and edit a tag and save it, explorer crashes big time!

This happens either way, whether from right clicking the file > edit id tag or from right clicking and selecting properties.......

this was from a single file by the way!

We are able to reproduce this bug and will be fixing ASAP (look for R12.1 beta soon).

Update: r12.1 is in beta, see link below!
note: not for reference users, PowerPack only

I am still having this problem. I upgraded to 12.1 powerpack but the problem continued. So I uninstalled completely, deleted the files in the dbPoweramp directory, restarted, reinstalled 12.1 powerpack, and restarted again. The problem continues. These are all ordinary VBR MP3 files. The files names are perfectly ordinary. I have edited them successfully in the past. I am running windows XP Pro SP2, Pentium M 1.3 GHz, 512 MB RAM. It appears to be all files (although I have too many to test them all). It includes both ripped music (ripped by dbPoweramp) as well as converted music (mostly from AAC, OGG, and WMA originals). I have not reinstalled any additional codecs or the DSP pack since the reinstall.

It could be the type of tag and a different not-yet-found bug.

If you have 1 mp3 file which can constantly crash (straight after a reboot), if you can send me that file with the steps you do, ie which tag is being edited. Then a fix can be made.

I've been debugging things on my end with no luck. I have pretty much ruled out a sharing violation, though.

Just a note that I am seeing this problem as well. I have seen it while editing multiple files at one time and I have seen it editing a single ID tag in a single file. I have also seen it adding tags to a file. I have used international English characters but haven't had any special Unicode characters yet (though I do have Chinese files I haven't edited them yet).

I am running Vista Ultimate and never installed the beta release of V12. I am only editing FLAC files.

No. I was using r12; I hadn't realized that r12.1 was available for GA. I have now downloaded it and the bug has been fixed. Thanks.

This is one of the few programs that I consider essential. It is very good - thanks.
