View Full Version : converting CD to Wav; crackling sound
Hi
I am using the converter to make some wav files from my CD.
After the conversion when I play the wav file I am getting crackling sounds on the file.
However, if i use other progs to do the program like Jet Audio or WinAmp. No crackling sounds.
Any suggestions on what settings I would have to change?
Thanks
Dave

Are you using dMC Audio CD Input? or dMC alone from Windows Explorer?
I am using dMC Audio CD Input.

see here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=4620&highlight=DMA+mode
Also, try setting the communication to "Windows Built-In (Limited)" which is found by clicking Options, the "Advanced" button next to the CD Drive selection.
Hi
Tried the DMA thread, it said on my controller "DMA if Available" so i am assumming that's fine. So I left it alone.
I installed the Nero Speed and changed it to maximum.
I rebooted
then re ripped a different CD and still the same crackling noises...I tried Jet Audio and I am getting no crackling.
I tried "try setting the communication to "Windows Built-In (Limited)"
re-ripped and still getting crackling.
Thanks for the continued help

Are you using WIndows 98 ? If so there is something extra that needs to be installed. http://www.dbpoweramp.com/Windows95-Update.htm
The cd may be copy protected. Disable table of contents detection, it may help.
I am running....
Windows XP Pro/Intel Pentium M 1700MHz/1GB ram/ ATI Mobility Fire GL T2/
The cd isn't copy protected..

Does it do it on any CD or just on one particular CD or on a particular group of CDs? What is one such CD that does this?
When I run (rip) dbPoweramp Conv. the crackling noise is on any cd.... (for example; I have ripped Steve Hackett - To Watch the storms, Steve hackett - Darktown.) I get the crackling.
When I run (rip) JetAudio or WinAmp on any CD..(for example; I have ripped Steve Hackett - To Watch the storms, Steve hackett - Darktown.) I don't get any crackling.
It just seems to be coming from dbPoweramp.
Thanks

Make sure no DSP effects are running, some effects such as increase volume would cause crackling if setup wrong.
Excellent
...that was it (DSP Effects) it was on 'Normalize' I deleted it and everything worked fine.
Thanks for everone's help!
