Number of values in multiple tags

A while back I recall reading that Asset only supported a maximum of 4 values for any multi-value tag.

Is this the case for the latest Asset 4.1 beta and if so, why the limitation?

    TIA

Because it slows the database down considerably (each operation has 4 separate requests).

Can we have this limitation of 4 changed to a user selectable option,

e.g. install default is 4, but user can increase/decrease as desired?

How about just increasing the value based on the installed Operating System.

Newer OS will be running faster cpu specs etc.

It is a value set when the code is compiled, so to do dynamically is plenty of work.

I understand the points made. Still, four is a very small number for this. Think of a jazz sextet or a string quartet with a couple of added instruments. A better number, unlikely to be exceeded (at least in my library), would be eight.

Has the maximum of 4 values for any multi-value tag limit been addressed in R5.x?

Is there going to be any change to this 4 value limit?

It is not currently planned as it would considerably slow down browsing for the majority who not have albums like this.

Re: Number of values in multiple tags

I think it's time to move on for more functionality. This thread started 5 years ago, and is not even the earliest request for more multiples.

The limiting factor here is probably the performance of NAS drives. Even a ten year old PC would be enough to handle more multiples. It's frustrating to wait for years and years for slow NAS drives to become fast enough, when fast computers have been around for so long.

I have several tracks in need for more than 4 Artist values. The Composer tag also needs more than 4 values sometimes. Not to mention the Style and/or Genre tags, which hit the 4-limit quite often. Plus my custom tags are often limited in functionality by the 4-limit (the handling of those is otherwise such a strong point for Asset, so the limitation is a pity).

If it's a matter of cost, NAS users could buy a used computer instead for almost nothing. If it's a matter of space, there are PC's of small form factor.

I really don't understand why users of slow NAS drives should be the norm anymore. Let them use the current version of Asset, or make them a light version. For the PC users, let's move on and let Asset have the potential it could have.
