Can't look up disk via "Manual Metadata Search"

Hi,

I am using dbPoweramp R17.3 on macOS 10.15.7 (Catalina).

I have a disc that the CD Ripper app looks up incorrectly; iTunes looks it up no problems.

I found the URLs to the correct disc on both musicbrainz and discogs, but I can't use the "Manual Metadata Search" dialog to populate the disc/track info.

Disc URLs:

I copy/pasted both of those URLs into the "Release URL" text box on the "Manual Metadata Search" dialog, then pressed the "Lookup Disc" button, but the lookup tool returns "No results found" with both URLs.

What am I doing wrong here? Is this the "proper" way to do a manual lookup and metadata populate using musicbrainz/discogs?

I should also mention, I checked the dbPoweramp website, and followed the instructions about copying the URL to the clipboard on my Mac, and then opening up the Manual Metadata Search dialog, but nothing happens.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I copied the Discogs URL to my clipboard, then opened up the "Manual Metadata Search" dialog. The "Release URL" text field populates with the URL, but nothing else happens. Pressing the "Lookup Disc" button causes some action in the background, but then I get a "No Results Found" message in a label to the right of the "Lookup Disc" button.

Is the metadata lookup session logged anywhere on my system? macOS 10.15.17/Catalina.

Additional debug logging of "Manual Metadata Search" feature has been added in dBpoweramp R17.5 beta 3-

To enable:
Open dBpoweramp settings, Diagnostics tab, enable "write debug logs".
This will cause text files to be written to your Documents folder, with names starting with "DBDebug".
The option is only active until dBpoweramp is closed, not remembered across runs.

Please post contents of debug files generated during the failing lookups.

For reference, I tried the exact same URLs on my Macs and everything seemed to work as intended, the information was retrieved correctly.

Dumb question, does your lookup tool use the system's proxy settings? I use a proxy for HTTP/FTP, and I have a sneaking suspicion that this may be the problem. I'll know more when I download and try to run the beta you posted.

dBpoweramp has its own setting for proxy (open dBpoweramp settings from the launcher dialog to configure), it currently doesn't pick system proxy settings - which would explain why it can't connect to metadata lookup services for you. I'll investigate this for the next update, system proxy settings should be respected by default.

I checked my dbPoweramp configuration settings, I have the proxy fields filled out in "Advanced Configuration"... I have no problems looking up disc metadata when a disc is first inserted into the drive and read, the problem occurs when I try to do a manual metadata search. My proxy is really simple, it's a Squid proxy, so "localhost:3128" is the host/port, and there's no proxy auth required.

When I first insert the disc, this is the log output:

The wrong metadata is returned by this query, which is pretty amazing, because the number of tracks/track times/total time of the disc, I would expect it to not match anything, but instead, it matches "Oscar Peterson - I Got Rhythm" from 2002 (Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/Oscar-Peters...lease/12828196). Same number of tracks

After copying the Discogs URL for the Harlem Jazz disc above to the clipboard on my system (macOS Catalina 10.15.7) and then entering the Manual Metadata dialog, this is the log output:

I pressed the "Lookup Disc" button, and "No results found.' is displayed in the label to the right of the "Lookup Disc" button.

Again, I have no problems with metadata lookups when a disc is first inserted into my drive and read by CD Ripper, it's only when I do a manual metadata search is when I have problems.

I put this disc back into the drive (https://www.discogs.com/Various-Harl...lease/15682027), log output was:

I then went to the Manual Metadata Search page and typed "Kanye West" and "Watch The Throne" into the Artist and Album boxes, then clicked on "Lookup Disc", and the label next to the button showed "No results found.".

I installed squid myself and pointed dBpoweramp at it, resulting in the same symptoms as yours.

I didn't try any other proxies, so I'm not sure if the behavior is Squid-specific or not.

I can confirm that Manual Metadata Search lookups work with the R17.5-beta4 release , thanks for the work into troubleshooting and fixing this issue.
