How to have the program remember my chosen path for conversions??

When I use the program, I always want the converted files to be in the same folder as the original ones. With dBpoweramp 15 I could do this no problem.

In dBpoweramp 16.1, I initially started out by choosing "Existing source folder(s)" from the drop-down list, and in the "Output to" box I see this: -

    Source Drive:\Source Path\Source Filename

When I converted some files, they appeared in the original source folder - exactly what I want.

However, this will often change by itself to this: -

    Music\Source Path\Source Filename

Once that happens, if I have a folder of files on my desktop and I convert them, they will be output here: -

C:\Users\*myusername*\Music\Users\*myusername*\Des ktop\*name of original source folder*

Is this a bug? I thought 16.1 was released partially to fix this? Or am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Which encoder are you using?

    How often does it change?

      Thanks for the reply, Spoon.

Most of the time I'm using the FLAC encoder. Sometimes I use the MP3 encoder.

It's hard for me to say how much it changes. Enough to be annoying is about all I can say, lol. I have tried to find a trigger for what makes it change, but as yet I've not been able to find one.

How are you starting Music converter? through batch converter, or right click >> convert to?

Always through right click >> convert to.

              Select Start and type:

              regedit

run the application and browse to:

              HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Illustrate\dBpoweramp

              Delete the values:

              HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Illustrate\dBpoweramp\d MCCodec\FLAC

              DMCDynamicNaming
              DMCUserFolder
              DMCUserFolderStr

These 3 control the stored path

              dMCLastFolder-x

where X is a number 0 to 9 (or less on your system), then use the program as normal, keeping an eye on the registry values for:

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately it did not work. After doing a few conversions, the path changed to this again: -

                Music\Source Path\Source Filename

                Any other suggestions?

Which value is stored internally in the registry? for:

                  DMCDynamicNaming
                  DMCUserFolder
                  DMCUserFolderStr

Re: How to have the program remember my chosen path for conversions??

                      You are missing:

                      DMCUserFolderStr

R16 writes this value, if something is stopping it being written then the program will not function correctly. That is why it is defaulting to 'Music', change to the location you want and check that this value is written, and look out for what is deleting it.

Nothing is deleting it. I've got no third party security software on this PC whatsoever.

For whatever reason, the value isn't even getting written in the first place.

Then something is blocking the writing of these variables, perhaps the security settings of the Windows registry is set to stop programs from writing to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
                          ?

all programs should be able to write to the registry.

I've not had any issues with any other software, nor with this software until version R16. If something was blocking the program from writing to the registry, why was it allowed to write those other keys that I posted a screenshot of? Something is selectively blocking the writing of a single key? I find that highly unlikely.

Re: How to have the program remember my chosen path for conversions??

I'm having exactly the same problem as described above, each time I want to do some conversion, I have to manually select the "Output To" option to what's the fixed destination I would like dBpoweramp remembers.

I'm also missing that registry value, and there is no restrictions at all about programs writing into registry neither.

Would be great if you can investigate further into the issue, and find a solution for it.

                              Thanks.
