    WAV to FLAC or AudioCD to FLAC. What is better?

    Hi,
    Is there a difference of converting an Audio CD to FLAC or the Audio CD via WAV to FLAC?

    I want to convert my CD Archive. As I want to stay flexible I thought to rip all CD's to WAV. As base format. As it contains all data. Afterwards I will convert to FLAC, mp3,... depending on the used player. This reduces the number of rips.
    Does this lead to a different sound quality on my FLAC?

    No there is not any difference, dBpoweramp is able to tag a wave file with the same amount of tags a flac file has.

      Use FLAC rather than WAV as "base format".
      -> Smaller files, same data
      -> More tagging-friendly (yes dBpoweramp can tag WAV's, but not all applications can read them)

      And, if you worry that conversion to portable files in lossy formats might be more complicated ... no. It hardly takes more time, as FLAC decoding is very light on CPU resources. (Actually so fast that FLAC --> WAV could be quicker than copying the file, if you have a spinning hard drive, due to less data to read.)
