    Re: New External Drive

    Hi all.

    Still with with my drives

I would like to have your comments about comparison of my three drives.

    Manufacturer Toshiba (laptop)
    Cd Drive DVDW/HD TS-L802A
    Max Speed : 11113 kb/s (X62)
    Spin Down After : 32s
    Buffer Size : 8Mb

Manufacturer Plextor (but made by Pioneer) (external)
    Cd Drive DVDR PX-830 SA
    Max Speed : 7056 kb/s (X40)
    Spin Down After : Never
    Buffer Size : 1.95Mb

    Manufacturer Philips (external)
    Cd Drive SPD 3400CC
    Max Speed : 8467 kb/s (X47)
    Spin Down After : 2mn
    Buffer Size : 2Mb

All are with Accurate Stream / C2 Error Pointers / Read ISRC / Read UPC

I do not know if max speed / spin down after & buffer size are important in the ripping process.

I try to know with which drive it is better to rip all my cds.

    Thanks for your usual help
    Thierry

        Re: New External Drive

Sometimes they can be, but for most drives leave on maximum speed.

          Hi Eli,

          Even this one ?

(although the case is probably made in China..)

The premium 2 is not manufactured any more, it is a true plextor though.

              Hi Spoon,

Plextor claims that this one is a true Premium 2 in a USB case to make it external.

They only sell it in Japan, and it is intended to be only used their (no international warranty).

The features are exactly the same as the internal version.

Perhaps a stupid question but as mentionned here above by HTH (Johanesbb) if I try to do myself an external drive for my laptop. Is it possible with these two products :

                Drive Plextor Premium 2

                External case

                    New External Drive

                    Good day.

So, I will create an external drive with an internal Plextor Premium 2 added to a Vantec 5.25 Ide external case (in Usb 2.0) for having (I hope) a good cd ripper drive.

So my question is: this Plextor drive will be recognized immediately by dBpoweramp and AccurateRip or only the External Case will be recognized?

                    Thanks for your usual help

Thank you Spoon for your answer

So I have put together a Plextor Premier II drive with an external case 5"1/4.

I've ripped some cds this evening and it is ok now

I've checked the cases Clear Read Cache with FUA & C2 Errors pointers

I think it is correct to check both cases for this Plextor drive, no ?
                          Thanks

In an external enclosure you will have to test for both c2 and fua.

Testing and seems ok with c2 and fua cache. Last question, i've checked the case lead-in lead-out. I think it is accepted by this Plextor drive. But with your experience it is better to have this case crosschecked or not? Thanks
