Converting AIFF files to MP3

Hi

I have converted an AIFF file (32.1Mb) which plays fine using Quicktime to an MP3 (5Mb), but all I get is static. What am I doing wrong?

Try playing the mp3 file in another program, also make sure you did not use the freeformat setting, which QuickTime would not be able to play.

I have tried playing it in Itunes & Media Player with the same results

I am using the VBR setting. I have repeated the conversion several times with the same results and reloaded the codec and converted etc, but still only get static! :(

Make sure you are not using any DSP effects.

Is the AIFF file a compressed aiff? You ar using R12 and the beta AIFF codec?

The file says 100% of original, 1 to 1 compression and I am using 12.3 with the beta codec

Hi,

I wrote the AIFF codec and I could use some more info:

1) have you tried converting to linear WAV?
2) can you give some more details about the file (bit depth, sample rate, how it was created, etc..)?
3) would you be able to send the file for me to analyse?
