are high bitrates problematic for cd/mp3 player?

I tried to convert my cds on a very high bitrate for optimum sound, but as i played this files on my portable mp3 discplayer, there were much more playback mistakes than on medium bitrate tracks. is it the best just to convert to 128?

It doesn't have to be that low, I would think all mp3 CD players should play 192Kbps mp3 files.
