Re: No meta data for newly released CD
Sorry Audiofan, but I have to agree with garym.
I understand what you are hoping to achieve, but the idea of relying on the online metadata databases to provide a well tagged audio library is flawed.
For my purposes, with the 2000+ CDs I have ripped, there wasn't one CD that I didn't have to add/edit metadata manually, before ripping.

Re: No meta data for newly released CD
Wow, thanks to everyone for the info and feedback. I guess I'm not manually updating the info because I'm trying to stay consistent in how and what data is gathered. If I stick with the same method then if oddities occur in the future then I don't have to try to remember if dBp input the data or I manually did it or WMP. And maybe there's a little bit of laziness thrown in too.
I'll just hang in there for a little while and see if the internet databases are updated. Thanks again for the help.Leave a comment:

Re: No meta data for newly released CD
Do not allow WMP to edit your tags, you will regret it. Check these forums for examples of WMP problems. I don't understand why you don't enter the metadata/artwork yourself. It's what I do on many newer CDs.Leave a comment:

Re: No meta data for newly released CD
I personally wouldn't let WMP touch my files, as it can do all sorts of weird things to your metadata and artwork. But *in general* there is no problem with ripping with dbpa then using some other program to change its metadata and/or artwork. The actual ripped audio won't be affected.Leave a comment:

Re: No meta data for newly released CD
WMP uses micorsofts own database, no one else can access it.Leave a comment:

Re: No meta data for newly released CD
Thanks for the reply mville. I appreciate the feedback.
Do you how long it usually takes for the 4 online databases to be updated? Do all 4 need to be updated? I'm assuming just one would be sufficient. And I'm guessing that since MusicBrainz wasn't an exact match its meta data wasn't used.
Is there way to manually configure dBpoweramp to also use The database that WMP uses or is there licensing issues involved?
Would there be any long term problems if I go ahead and rip using dBp and then open it with WMP and let WMP update the meta data info? I've just started ripping a number of CDs to a new NAS and I'm trying to be as consistent as possible in the ripping process.Leave a comment:

Re: No meta data for newly released CD
There is no problem here, just that your pressing of the CD is not yet in the 4 online metadata databases. Windows Media Player uses a different database.
You will have to enter the metadata/artwork manually or wait until the CD metadata is submitted to the 4 online metadata databases.Leave a comment:

No meta data for newly released CD
I'm trying to rip (dBpoweramp 15.2) a new CD (Widespread Panic - Street Dogs) and no Meta Data or cover art is found. I've gone to MusicBrainz and the CD is there. Also, if I open the CD with Windows Media Player (version 12) it recognizes all the tracks and art. I did purchase the CD from BestBuy and it has two additional tracks that MusicBrainz doesn't list and if I look up the CD in Amazon it also doesn't list the additional tracks. Apparently BestBuy is selling an exclusive release of the CD with the extra tracks. Although WMP recognizes the additional tracks and labels them with the correct name.
Is the BestBuy exclusive release causing the problem with the databases not recognizing the CD?
Thanks for any help or feedback.Tags: None
