Re: Rip to flac unknown artist
Yes, Thank you very much.
Entering Artist (and other meta data) in dBpoweramp
before ripping the CD seems to work just fine.
I had not tried that.

And, as previously mentioned, Sonos does need to re-index ("Update") your music library before it'll display any changes you make. You can force a manual update from your Sonos Controller, or you can wait until the next scheduled update (assuming you have it set up to do that).Leave a comment:

Re: Rip to flac unknown artist
I think you are right - that it must be a "no data issue" because of a homemade CD.
It works fine in Sonos so no problem.
The Artis info works with other CDs that I have ripped.
I regard the problem as solved.
Thank you very much.Leave a comment:

Re: Rip to flac unknown artist
It appears to me, from your attached images, that this isn't just about the ARTIST info....looks like you're not getting any metadata. This can happen for a number of reasons: Perhaps it's a homemade CD that has no metadata (and of course, there's nothing about it in the online databases); perhaps your dBp setup is unable to go online and access the databases; perhaps you have inadvertently set dBp to remove all tags.
Bottom line, though, is that this appears to actually be a "no metadata" issue and the "unknown artist" problem is just one part of that. You're also not getting track titles and most of the other metadata about those files.
When you insert the CD and wait, say, 30 seconds, what do you see in the CD Ripper window? Are all the tracks listed with their proper titles?Leave a comment:

If, as it looks, you are using Sonos then I think you need to update your Music Library for any changes to take effect.Leave a comment:

Re: Rip to flac unknown artist
Post rip, changing the tags does not automatically rename your files. You'll need to process the filename using the Arrange audio codec (I think this is the correct codec) or other software like MP3Tag.Leave a comment:

Re: Rip to flac unknown artist
The label "Album Artist" was not added in Edit ID tag.
It is now added and I have entered the artist name but
the name of the track file has not been renamed.
I stil says Unknown Artist.flac.Leave a comment:

Re: Rip to flac unknown artist
When in Edit ID Tag check the "Album Artist" tag and see if the Artit's name is there.
If not, put it in there and see if that works.Leave a comment:

Re: Rip to flac unknown artist
That Artist and tracks have titles on the CD before ripping you mean?
Or can I do that in dbPoweramp before ripping somehow?Leave a comment:

Re: Rip to flac unknown artist
When ripping you should be certain that Artist, and tracks have titles before ripping.Leave a comment:

Re: Rip to flac unknown artist
I rip to a folder in Windows and copy to my Synology NAS afterwards.
In Windows the track files are just named as Unknown Artist - see
attached image.
Entering the artist name in the Edit ID tag does not change that.
See attached image.
But following one of the procedures below does.
Right-click on each track and choose Windows' 'Rename'.
Or right-click on each track and choose Properties >
the tab 'General' to rename each track file.
See tacched images.Leave a comment:

Re: Rip to flac unknown artist
If when you right click on the file >> Edit ID Tag
if it is showing the correct Artist, then it is likely a bug in your media server application which is not reading that flac tag correctly (perhaps the album art is too big for it to handle).Leave a comment:

I just right-click on each track and choose Windows' 'Rename' or
Properties > the tab 'General' to rename each track file,
right?Leave a comment:

Rip to flac unknown artist
Hi,
I have just ripped one of my CDs to flac using dbPoweramp.
In all of the tracks it just says unknown artist.
I have tried to enter the artist of the tracks by using the
Edit ID-tag feature but it still says Unknown artist.
I have copied all of the tracks to my Synology NAS but only
a few of the tracks are available in my Sonos Controller.
Do I have to rip the CD once again with some other settings?
I use Windows 7.Tags: None
