Conversion Error Message

I just installed dbpowerAMP and am trying to convert a WAV audio file to Mp3. I keep getting this error message:

What am I doing wrong?

What created the wave file?

>1 Bits per Sample

that is not valid for a PCM wave file, it should be 8 or 16 bits per sample.

The WAV file was created with Sony Digital Voice Editor 2.31.

After experimenting some more, I found a file can only be converted to MP3 if it is saved as WAV 11kHz 16 bit mono. The other choices (44 kHz 16 bit stereo and auto-conversion) produce the error message when run through dbpowerAMP. Unfortunately, the audio quality at 11kHz isn't so great -- sounds "echoey."

What is the exact error you get when using a 44KHz stereo 16-bit WAV?
