    Re: Dfference in Confidence

Yup. Look at the track lengths and the location of the "bad" frame in every example. Interesting, is it not?

Looks like with that drive connected via IDE and not constrained to 8KB reads (or whatever constraint the effective default is for USB), dbpoweramp is reporting that the final frame in the read buffer of each of those problem tracks sometimes contains C2 pointer flags which indicate potential errors, even though it's likely they are due to a firmware or software issue somewhere in the chain. It happens repeatably in the same place too.

Or potentially even garbled audio data? I can't recall of the larger frame size with C2 flags has the flags before or after the audio data. If before, it's more possible the audio data could be corrupted.

    Is it the drive? Maybe.

Constraining the read size to 8KB seems to work around the issue, whether it's a drive, interface, OS or ripper issue. So, I recommend you do that.

Thank you Brendan for your answer.

      So to recapitulate :

Plextor Premium 2 as internal driver IDE in a computer pc under Windows XP

I am going to rip with these hereunder settings :

Cache : none (recommended by dBpoweramp)
FUA : yes (recommended by dBpoweramp)
C2 : yes (recommended by dBpoweramp)
8KB : yes (if I let no I have some errors of ripping, confidence numbers not correct...)

As I have lot of cds to rip, so I prefer to have the best settings to avoid any problems in the future.

Could I rip with these settings ?

      Thanks

That is meant to use for USB/Firewire connections, so for an IDE connection it should usually not be checked. (And based on my own attempt, I think it is buggy.)

Except in this instance the 8KB option gives the correct result (those other AccurateRip entries will be people ripping the same disc without that set, on that exact drive...)

There is little a program can do with regards C2 pointers, the drive should always return the same data regardless of how much data is read in one go, if it does not then there is no way of detecting this.

OK Spoon, so I will use the 8KB option for this case.

            Thanks again

Wow. I swapped due to my own bad experience bias. Bad Porcus, careless Porcus. *smack*

Spoon - If I recall correctly, the accuraterip system has a way of blacklisting drive submissions for known problematic drives. I take it there's not enough info logged to blacklist a subset of a particular drive only if certain settings are made and/or if they are connected in certain ways? I suppose I know the answer to this already...

                  You're welcome.

Yes, those should work. Unrelated to the rest of this thread: if the cache size really is zero, then I suspect that FUA is redundant. I wonder if it is really the case that the drive does not cache?

                    Re: Dfference in Confidence

I believe the issue is drive related, also disc related (you would possibly not see it on other discs).

                      Good day,

Will all here above settings is it necessary to check the case Ultra Secure or not ?

                      Thanks again
