    Adaptive Normalization Error

I'm trying to normalize some files, and while simple and fixed normalization work fine, adaptive normalization 're-arranges' every track I've tried so far, regardless of which format I start in or convert to. When I place the normalized file side by side with the original, the levels in the new file are as they should be, but the sound has been shuffled about, so I get, for example, a track which is fine for two minutes thirty seconds, but then the last minute or so has two 30 second chunks transposed so that I get the originally quiet outro at 0db followed by the chorus fading out. Other tracks get shuffled in different ways, but they all have something wrong with them, and the problem shows up consistently on every PC I've tried here (all running XP SP2).

    Any ideas?

Is that the only DSP effect you are running? what is the length of the original, in what format?

      Re: Adaptive Normalization Error

Adaptive normalization is the only effect I'm applying. The files are being converted from various MP3 formats (for example, FhG encoded 320kbps joint stereo) to WAV, however I've also tried converting them to WAV first and then normalizing, and the intermediate WAV is fine but the normalized WAV turns out identical to the one created directly from the MP3 (ie badly). The source files are all between 3 and 6 minutes in length.

I am having the exact same problem. Has this been solved?

I've encountered the same problem under the same conditions. Further, I've tried this with ALL versions of LAME, and disabled any write-behind caching as well.

This problem only occurs when adaptive normalization is above 92-93%

                Re: Adaptive Normalization Error

IMPORTANT note to my above post: The glitches in writing the files using Adaptive Normalization only seem to appear in long files, say over 8-10 minutes in length.

As I've purchased dbPowerAmp for the purpose of archiving classical music, I find this bug particularly troublesome.

Feedback and a fix from dbPowerAmp would be appreciated.

Hope we don't have to start calling you Mary <g>.

                        Golly, it seems to work.

Well it did work, but now it's dead in the water. During the past few days the normalization feature has stopped working on all our machines. Does this patch have an expiration date?

P.S. I'm a registered user of dB, so shouldn't have to deal with time-bombs where they might exist.

There are no time bombs anywhere in that dll. Perhaps something has changed? such as settings, (try converting an old file that used give good results).

                              Spoon,

Thanks for the assist. Turns out the problem was in the compression codec used. When I ran normalization from/to WAV all worked well. Once the compression codec was replaced, the process worked well from end to end.

Many thanks again for your patience and assistance.

                              Kudos,
