    conversion .rmj to .mp3

Like many others, I'm trying to convert Real Network's .rmj files to iTunes .mp3's. I have downloaded the codec, DirecShow Decoder, and have edited the configuration file for .ra, .rm, and .rmj files. I have tried renaming my local files to .ra, .rm from the .rmj, but the Converter halts saying, "DirectShow filter for '.ra' not installed, or Audio File Corrupt."

where am I going wrong? I feel I'm so close....

It is most likley a protected real media file so it cannot be converted. Can you play it in either Real Player or Media Player classic?

I think it's in Real Player. It's version 10.5, and it is the free download from Real Player, not any upgraded version.

      Thanks for your help

If you cannot convert it, you can always record the audio using dMC Auxiliary Input to the format of your choice.

Conversion of real media files requires either the DirectShow coded and Real ALternative and appropriate filters to be installed OR the older real media codec and Real Player to be installed.

You cannot have both Real Player and Real Alternative concurrently. Or rather you can but you'll likely get various clashes.

Some real media files can only be converted by the DirectShow codec. Others can only be converted by the older codec. Some can be converted by either one. Some by none.

You'll have to try each one in turn and if all fail use dMC Auxiliary Input. As I said, if the file is protected, no conversion will work at all in any case. But you may also be able to use Real Player to burn an audio cd with this file and then rip the audio cd using dMC Audio CD Input.

Well, I'll try the older codec and see, but I don't have high hopes. To burn a new cd and then re-record is even more time consuming, so I'll have to search around and find all the original CD's and put them in one-at-a-time. arrrggghhh

          Thanks for your help

Ah, wait. You mean that file was originally on an audio cd that got ripped? So it's likely not protected then - unless when ripping it and converting it to real media originally some copy protection was enabled by accident (or by the software by intent). Protected files are usually bought and downloaded through some web service.

If you burn it to an audio cd ripping it through dMC Audio CD Input takes just a second.

Recording is done in real time if you use dMC Auxiliary Input. As would conversion through the old real media decoding codec assuming it works for you.

One note is if you are currently able to play the file in Real Player, as per what I said previously, you probably don't have the DirectShow & Real Alterantive functional, since they don't cohabit with Real Player - at least in my experience.
