Downloading Nero Digital AAC encoder ??

    Hi,
I would like to convert FLAC files to Apple Lossy format M4a (ACC).
I have read the M4a Codec page and believe I need to download the Nero Digital AAC encoder to accomplish this. I can find three references to this codec on various codec pages. Which of the following should I use?

    dBpoweramp aac Encoder help text
Installing Nero AAC Codec section has a link
Nero Platinum - Nero is the leading provider of premium software for the multimedia experience. We make burning, streaming, editing more convenient and easier. Start your free trial today!

which only has the main Nero products. It does not have the zip file mentioned in the text of this help file.

dBpoweramp m4a Nero (AAC) Encoder help text
Installing Nero AAC Codec section has links to two web pages
Nero Platinum - Nero is the leading provider of premium software for the multimedia experience. We make burning, streaming, editing more convenient and easier. Start your free trial today!

    (Direct Link: ftp://ftp6.nero.com/tools/NeroDigitalAudio.zip)
From looking at the web page this does have a zip file for the codecs.

dBpoweramp Codec Central: m4a, mp4, m4b & aac web page
m4a Nero AAC Encoder section contains the following link
m4a Nero AAC Encoder Release 1 points to

Which seems to be a downloadable codec

Given the three different options above I am not sure which one is needed to convert from FLAC to Apple lossy for my Apple devices.

    Have I misunderstood something?
Am I on the right track or going down the wrong path?
What is the preferred method to convert from FLAC to Apple Lossy?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated,
    Chip

You need the dBpoweramp one you listed as well as the nero AAC encoder from Nero, I think both nero links are the same item.

      Hello,
I apologize if I seem a bit thick but I have learned to live by the old axiom "Measure twice and cut once" so I would like to ask a couple more questions.

      Nero downloads
      This link http://www.nero.com/enu/technologies-aac-codec.html
      downloads
      NeroAACCodec-1.5.1.zip which is 2003 KB
      and this link ftp://ftp6.nero.com/tools/NeroDigitalAudio.zip
      downloads
      NeroDigitalAudio.zip which is 1,775 KB
Which of the two links do I need to download?

      dBpoweramp
You mentioned I need to download the dBpoweramp I listed. Just to be sure that is:
      dBpoweramp Codec Central: m4a, mp4, m4b & aac
      m4a Release 14 850 KB
      and
m4a Nero AAC Encoder Release 1 928 KB
      from web page:

      Installation
I need to install the dBpoweramp Codec Central: m4a, mp4, m4b & aac codecs first in this order:
      m4a Release 14
      then
m4a Nero AAC Encoder Release 1
and then install the Nero codec.

Thanks for your patience and help,
      Chip

        NeroAACCodec-1.5.1.zip is a newer version of NeroDigitalAudio.zip

any of them can be used. It does not matter the order it is installed in.

No matter what I do, I cannot get the nero convertor to work. I have tried all the different downloads and put them in the encoder path and then I have downloaded and installed the m4a-Nero Codec, the aac encoder, m4a utilities, and the m4a Codec - still to no avail. What am I missing? I recently updated my computer to Win 7 Pro 64 bit.

Thanks for your help in advance!

the last step is to point dbpoweramp at the encoder (which you downloaded from nero - use this ftp link to avoid registration - ftp://ftp6.nero.com/tools/NeroDigitalAudio.zip). copy the file 'neroAacEnc.exe' to dbpoweramp\encoder\m4a Nero (AAC) - dbpoweramp should find it automatically; if not, on the dbpoweramp window with nero aac selected, click 'encoder >>' and point it to that file.
