Hello

dBpoweramp say when I convert ---.mp3 to wma "The CODEC required to compress "---.wma" could not be opened." And the conversion becomes aborted.

how I fix this? :blush:

Which one did you install? v9.1 or v9 or v8?

What version of dMC do you have? If you have dMC r11.5 then run dMC Configuration and copy your configuration and paste it here.

What is your OS ? version of WMP ?

What specs does your input mp3 file have ( bitrate, frequency, channels) and what did you select for the output wma?

I just updated to dmc 11.5 and tried it again.

Forget it. I changed the output settings to 192 kbps, 44kHz, stereo CBR under
Windows Media Audio v9.1 (its greyed out tho). Strange, v9 and v9.1 show
but v9.1 is greyed out...

Anyway, it worked.

If iza is one and the same as savgcl ((???) here's what I say:

1) get the latest dMC R11.5 and install on top of the current one - do no uninstall to rpeserver registered status

2) if you have Windows Media Player (WMP) 10 then get the codec for wma 9.1 from codec central

3) what exactly created this mp3 file with such specs?
VBR 191, Freq 4400, 2 channel (joint stereo mid side)
MPEG1 Layer lll, Encoded Lame 3.91r ABR 192 kbps

Does a test conversion (no write) work with that mp3 file?

WMA 9.1 is greyed out because it is a "Smart Install" codec that, upon selecting it, asks if you want to go to Codec Central on this website and download the WMA 9.1 codec.

Name confusion is my fault. I had a similar thread in this forum and (without
thinking, of course) I posted into iza's thread. Apologies, iza....

The problem was identical tho and i hope iza got everything worked out too.

Ok, so, i need to re-install wma v9.1? I do have wmp10 and wma v9 now
(with v9.1 greyed out as mentioned above).

My Os is WinXP sp2 and I've WMP 10.

it's difficult to say information of the bitrate, frequency an channels of my mp3 because they're in a lot of kinds.
I want of convert them with VBR professional.

Have you tried test converting one of your mp3 files? This is the same as converting to WMA except when you reach the spot where you specify wma as your output format, select "Test Conversion(No Write)". This is a quick process. It will not result in an output file. If the test conversion is successful, the window which shows the progress of your conversion will show that the conversion is completed and you will see an indication of the speed of the test conversion. This assures that dMC can read the source file.

If that works, can you change an mp3 file (one which does not convert directly to wma), and convert it to standard wave? If you can, can you convert that wave file to wma?

IZA, wma 9.1 Professional (with or without VBR) has a lot of different settings. If you are picking any where the frequency does not agree with the frequency of the mp3 files, you will likely run into conversion problems.

In particular if you are trying to use a wma vbr setting with a frequency of 96KHz, that is not anyhting that is available in an mp3 which can at most have a frequency of 48KHz, so this will very probably give errors.

Well, only vbr professional with all the frequenties with the channel 5.1 will not convert.

First, convert your files to a 2-channel WAV, then to a 6 Channel WAV, and then to a 6 channel WMA. That should work, but I'm not sure as I've never dealt with 5.1 files before.

I suspect that is because mp3 only supports one or two channels.
I think you can try using intermediate conversions to wave and then to wma 5:1 (maybe even to wma vbr 2-channel and then to wma vbr pro 5:1 channel, maybe not). I also don't recall if the intermediate conversion is mp3 to 2 channel wav to wma 5:1 (least likely to succeed), mp3 to 5:1 channel wave to wma 5:1, or mp3 to 2 channel wave to 5:1 channel wave to wma 5.1 (most likely to succeed).

Please note that this conversion (this is also true of converions from a 1 channel source to a 2-channel file or for 1 or 2 channel conversions to other 4,5,6 channel files) will not apply true multi-channel sound.

For wma 5.1 you need audio that is 6 channel, try the 24 bit option instead.
