Rip a cd to mp4 or AAC

I would like to rip a cd to either mp4 or AAC. Are these codecs the same?

I've looked through codec central but remain unsure of what codecs to download. Any help will be appreciated.

mp4 files contain AAC audio (mp4 is a container for the Audio), mp4 is better for tagging and seaking in the files.

Start with faac, and the mp4 decoder.
