Hello
An error "The CODEC required to compress 'C:\Documents and
Settings\2\Desktop\radio\14474.mp3.TEMP.mp3' could not be opened." appears while converting a mono *.rm file to a mono MP3 file. How to convert the mono file?

Can you play the .rm file using Real Player?

Yes. I can play the .rm file using Real Player. The error "The CODEC required to compress 'C:\Documents and Settings\2Desktop\radio\14474.mp3.TEMP.mp3' could not be opened." appears while converting a mono *.rm file to a mono wma file too.

Go to Codec Central, link above, and make sure all the required realplayer codecs are downloaded. Try re-installing them if they are.

All the required realplayer codecs are downloaded. I tryed to re-install them. This have not helped. Can you convert a mono *.rm or *.wma file to a mono 32 kbit/s ABR MP3 file?

Hmmm... I don't own any mono files to test with.

But I converted a stereo 32kbps CBR wma to a mono 32kbps CBR wma first. Then I converted this one to mono 32 kbps ABR MP3 (Lame) with No preset. It worked in the sense that it completed the conversion without an error. Yet, on playback the scrolling text in WMP says the bit rate is 81kbps and yet again the id tag says 31kbps mono ABR. Conclusion? No idea! :p

At least I'm not getting an error.

I'm running W2k.

Thanks for your reply.
Most of radio files are mono RealAudio files. I get the error with downloaded radio files.

Are you sure it is really an .rm file? could it have been originally a .ram file which would make it the meta-file for playing .rm files?

A simple test for this would be to try to open the file using Notepad. If it opens and it's readable, then you're dealing with the .ram file really. You'll find your reference to the actual audio file (.rm or somethign else) in there somewhere.

Sorry, I can't offer any other suggestion :)

The error seems to be compressing, try converting it to a wave file, does it work?

Converting a mono wma or RealAudio file to mono wave file does not work too.

Ok, then if you're still having problems, you should register here and send me a Private Message and I will send you an email address where you can send me one of your .rm files that cannot be converted and I'll take a stab at it. I hope the file is not too big :)
