I am using Cool Edit Pro to create commericals for a radio station. When I create a multitrack recording and mix it into 1 track, then try to convert the .wav into a mp3 I receive the error:
CODEC required to compress (file name) could not be found.
I have no problem when I convert a single track recording to a mp3.
Why would there be a difference between the 2??
Is there a fix I might be able to download??
Please respond.

What is the format of your WAV file? 16 or 24 bits?

It is a 32 bit
32 is too high for mp3, infact I think my wave converter will only handle 24 bits correctly.

I guess I'm not too sure what bit it would be. How much of difference does it make if it is a 16 bit or a 24 bit?
The problem is happening only with a multitrack recording.

For listening to an mp3 it will make no difference if the source is 16 bit or 24 bit.

What is the quickest and easiest way to convert a 24 bit wav file to a 16 bit so it can be played in Media, real, etc... players? Or is there a software I need to get. None of the cakewalk programs I have will even open it to try to convert it.

dMC will convert a 24bit wave file.
