I have a simple need to change ra files (real audio) so that I can play them on my Ipod. I just downloaded dB but when I go to the folder it doesn't show any files. So is dB not capable of changing ra files into Ipod files?
If I need a Codec, which one do I need and how do I install it or is it automatic?
Thanks
Rosanna

Install the DirectShow Decoder from Codec Central and follow the link there to install Real Alternative.

I'm trying to do this as well and must be missing something. I've installed the directshow codec, but never see any option anywhere for real alternative install. If I go into db converter I can't see where to select directshow. thanks for any additional info.

EDIT: I did go into the text file and add .ra and .rm as file types. These now show up under configuration under the direct show. But when I select a .ra file to convert, dbpoweramp doesn't recognize the file as an audio file. still missing something.

I got it to work. It's odd how this is working now. I didn't have to do the second thing that was suggested.
Try this:
Start/Programs/dBPoweramp MusicConverter/Configuration/dBConfiguration

There should be 3 Tabs Versions
Codecs
Music Converter

Look in Codecs to see if Direct Show Decoder is there.

To use this program I click on: Start/Programs/dBPoweramp MusicConverter
and it starts working by asking where the files I want to convert are.
That's it!
Good Luck

My bad, if you go to the Real Audio page in Codec Central, that is where it links to Real Alternative and the DirectShow Decoder

I spoke too soon. Yes the convert does something but there's only 1-2 secs. of info when the conversion is done.
I'm totally lost with this.
Why do I need the Real Alternative.
Should I uninstall when it asks if I want to ( I think it's asking to uninstall Real Player),
When I download as instructed Windows Media Player doesn't play .ra files.
If I type the code line in Start/Run I get an error message.
In dBPowerampConfig/Codecs/DirectShow it's listed but there is no release date as there is in other things listed there.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

What I did was go to codec central tab, click on real audio (this link):

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-realaudio.htm

then do the two steps at bottom, install real alternative, then install direct show. When installing real alternative, I selected NO on removing Real Player (I kept real player).

The only other thing I did was go to
documents and settings/mynameasuser/application data/dbpoweramp/
then open directshow.txt

in directshow.txt I added the following on two separate lines then saved file:

.ra
.rm

After this I used start programs to run dbpoweramp converter, went to the directory with my .ra files, highlighted the files, then they opened in the converter and I converted to lame mp3 files. all are 40min to 1 hour files and all worked just fine. Let me know if you have any questions.

You need RealAlternative because it installed the "RealMedia Directshow Splitter" that allows the DirectShow Decoder to read the Real files.
