View Full Version : 12.1 question
Wasn't able to use the 11.5 since I have purchased a dell vista basic cp.
I downloaded the new 12.1 out of curosity and I see that there are many changes there. I basically used the converter to convert ram files to wave, not into mp3 or lame.
I do not see a converter like the one I used in 11.5 where I could click on auxillary and do my work from there. I have checked all files that downloaded on 12.1 and I cannot find the any item that I could use to convert to wave.
I know that you all know that on the 11.5 you got the options box, where to send the music to etc.
In the files downloaded for 12.1 where do I find the auxillary input if it is available.
Thanks in advance
While I played a song and saved it to my hd it was real audio I clicked on the file it gave me a drop down box that had " to convert" when I clicked on it showed me the dbpower amp converter when I clicked on convert it gave me an erro msg. "Error unable to load decoder for tile type ram codec not installed.
I remember on the older version I had to have an Ac3 filter, directshow, also there was an area tht I had to type in ra, and other letteres rvb etc.
Can you tell me in that converter box there is "uncompressed , compressed settings, wave-mp3-settings and channels". Not sure what should show there.
Appreciate any help

To clarify Java's point about using r11.5 on Vista, I believe that his problem is that he cannot get Aux Input to work in Vista.
Auxiliary Input has still not been ported to r12 or r12.1 or r12.2, Java.
Did you install the DirectShow Decoder, currently in beta in the beta section of this forum?
Hello, Lt.Data, no I did not download, no I didn't d/l the DirectShow Decoder but plan to this evening, also wondered about the ac3 filter is that a part of the DirectShow?
Also, I remember from the 11.5 I need to go to a file and type in the ra's etc to convert ram files.
Should I lay back until the auxilary unit is ported to 12.1
Thanks again Lt.

You can use both r12 and r11.5 at the same time, as described here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/legacy-compatibility.htm
Lt.Data, I d/l the directshow decorder from the beta site. It did install but when I tried to convert I got this msg. "DIRECT SHOW FILTER FOR RAM FILES NOT INSTALLED OR AUDIO FILE IS CORRUPT".
I wonder if I did not install the right one?

If you got the beta version into r12, did you also install Real Alternative? Did you make sure in dBpoweramp Configuration that .ra, .ram, etc. showed up under the DirectShow Decoder.
Yes, I just checked dbpoweramp config. it shows all the ra's and other names the ra, ram etc are all in very light letters so I have to assume that is correct and I had real alternative installed previously. It shows that the version is 12.1, is that correct.
Should I do an uninstall and then reinstall?
Thanks!

How big is your .ram file? If it is only a few KB, it is a meta-file. See here for how to get the real file if it is: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=4992
Don't know the sze of the file I tried to convert only that it was a ram file and I coverted the song on my older cp with 11.5.
Also I uninstalled all the directshow decorder that I could find and when I tried to reinstall from the beta section I got this msg: ERROR DbPowerAmp\dbcconfig.exe". and of course it did not load. I am not sure what I am looking for.
Thanks

Did you install the DirectShow Decoder into the directory with r12? That error normally means you installed a r12-compatible codec into dMC r11.5.
I delete 11.5 a few days ago before I d/l `12.1. When I d/l directshow I put it in a file by it self. Should I put in with my converter files I am thinking that way in reply to your question where I put it.
I have uninstalled all my files and reinstalled dbpoweramp. I have not re-installed direct show, will wait until you reply.
I have real alternative installed and also ac3 filter. I have looked and cannot find any file tht shows ra ram etc installed. Not sure where I should look for it under the new files.
Out of curosity I tried again to convert a real audio file to wave and got this msg: "unable to load decorder for file type "ram" codec not installed [dbcoreconverter::core converter]. I did note that it said to go to codec central and I saw some items there by Spoon.
Under there was a page when I type in the ra's ram" so I am a little confused. When I load directshow will these extensions be included.
Thanks LtData

Yes, you should always install codecs to the dMC directory.
An easy way to check to see if you have the DirectShow decoder for ram installed in your system is to see if the .ram files will play in Real Alternative and then if they play in Windows Media Player. If they will not play in WMP, then the DirectShow decoder is not installed correctly. Note that I am referring to the "RealMedia Splitter" direct show decoder that Real Alternative installs, not the dMC decoder.
Hello, well I have uninstalled real alternative then re-installed, I uninstalled 12.1 and re-installed, I tried to install directshow again, and it will not let me tells me I already have direct show installed, yet when I tried to convert a real audio file got this msg again: :Direct show filter for Ram file types is no installed or an audio file is corrupt". So, am at a loss at this time.
Thanks

You must have missed my question above: An easy way to check to see if you have the DirectShow decoder for ram installed in your system is to see if the .ram files will play in Real Alternative and then if they play in Windows Media Player. If they will not play in WMP, then the DirectShow decoder is not installed correctly. Note that I am referring to the "RealMedia Splitter" direct show decoder that Real Alternative installs, not the dMC decoder.
Also, does the DirectShow Decoder show up with ".ram" in dBpoweramp Configuration?
I can save real files to my harddrive and play them and I can also play them in wm. Some of the songs I play are already in wave.
I do not see ram anywhere in config. I noticed when I d/l realalt. it said it was installing ra, and the rest of the r's but I do not see them anywhere.
I notice when I look up codecs in dbpoweramp config. located in install there are two boxes that are not check, 1. real audio((helix) and wav pak by their sides it states install on demand, edshould they be installed?
I wonder if I have the right converter , the one I try to convert with comes in a drop down that appears when I right click the real file.
I think I have 11.5 on my mind when I have the aux. input, and could manually type in thr rams.
Thanks again LtData, have a good weekend.

The Real Audio (helix) codec is a real encoder, so you don't need it to decode real.
Does the DirectShow Decoder show up in dBpoweramp Configuration? Did you reinstall the DS Decoder to the correct location aka the same location as dMC?
No it does'nt show in dbpoweramp and I did install it to the file with dmc.
Since I'm retired and have time on my hands, I am going to uninstall everything connected with dmc. I will leave real alternative alone and reinstall 12.1 and directshow. In the mean time perhaps you can advise me on proper installation. I read some of Spoon's advice and will wait on your.
Also I do not see a converter box except for the one I mentioned in the drop down. I keep thinking of the auxillary file under 11.5.
Thanks will wait on your reply. I hope I am not bugging you, I enjoy working with these situations.

Install dMC r12 whereever you want. However, you must make sure you then install all codecs to the same directory as dMC is installed to.
What do you mean "a converter box"?
Sorry, what I meant was in the auxilary options box that came up to select artist and other items.

You mean the box that popped up that looked like the old r11.5 CD ripper window? With artist, title, track names etc on it? You don't see that when you just do a normal conversion.
Yes box I am thinking about appeared when I clicked on the auxilary icon and a box appeared that had an options that you could click and check where you could direct the area you wanted to save the song to and several other boxes one that I remeber was a "select" that you put a tic in dont't remeber what for.
Now I reinstalled 12.1 and well as directshow and I saved it to the same spot that I save 12.1 in. I opened up directshow config. and typed in the following, .ra .rm .ram. rmvb. I did each on a separate line.
I thought then I was operational I still got the same msg. Error Unable to load decorder for file type ram codec not installed visit codec central.
No sure what type of decoder I am looking for.
Thanks

Does the DirectShow Decoder show up in dBpoweramp Configuration? What does it say after it?
Can you play the .ram file in Windows Media Player?
First, when I click on a ram file to play media classic comes up and then plays.
Second, When I click on dmc config. a box shows up that has the versions listed, when I click on codecs, it shows encoders, then decoders(read) it has cd decoder, mp3 decoder and wave decoder. The rest of that box is "on Demand" when I click on music converter I'm sure you know what is there.
I installed directshow to the same file and it is llisted as "Configure Direct Show Decoder" when I click on that this is what shows:
Add supported DirectShow file type extensions, type only one extension per
// line (replace .xyz below), re-run 'dMC Configuration' after adding new, for example:
//
// .ac3
// .abc
//
.ra
.rm
.ram
.rmvb
I typed in the extensions manually.
Hope this is what you asked for, I feel bad tying you up with all these posts, but would like to see this thru to the end working or will not work.
Thanks

Could you click the "Copy to Clipboard" button while on the codecs page and then paste it here? I just want to verify that the DirectShow Decoder is not showing up there.
I asked you to play the file in Windows Media Player to make sure the system DirectShow real codecs are working.
To double-check: you installed dMC r12 and the beta DirectShow decoder to the same directory, correct? In the dMC install directory in the "decoder" folder, do you see a file called "DirectShow"?
This is what shows when I copied from the codec page to the clip board.
Cd advanced
dmcwinexp
dmcconfig

Microsoft Clip Organizer
dmcconfig

Most of these when opened go back to illustrate
I opened up wmp11 and drug a few of my real files there when I
tried to play them I got this msg:
WMP cannot play the file. The player might not support the file tpe or might not support the codec tht was used to compress the file. While I had the player opened I had also drug a wave file there and it played ok.
Finally I did install 12.1 and directshow decorder to the same file. When I open up the db poweramp file one of the three items is "Versions" when I clip on that it opens to "input" when I click on the it shows "directshow" that opens to direct show notepad release 1.
In start> programs >dbPoweramp music converter] along with the other items it shows configure directshow decoder and when I click on that it gives the DSExt where I type in all the ra's etc.
Thanks

I meant the codec tab in dBpoweramp Configuration and the "Copy Versions to Clipboard" button.
If WMP cannot play your file, then there may be a problem with the RealMedia Media Splitter. Try reinstalling Real Alternative and making sure the "RealMedia DirectShow Splitter" is checked in the list of options.
If I understand in correctly microsoft did not add clipboard in vista.
Not sure if this is what you are looking for but I was able to copy it;
Codecs Installed
Encoders (write)
mp3 (Lame) Lame 3.97
.mp3
Test Conversion
Wave Release 12.1
.wav
Decoders (read)
CD Decoder Release 12.1
.cda
mp3 Decoder Release 12.1
.m2a, .mp1, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .mpg, .mpga, .mpx
Wave Decoder Release 12.1
.wav
Install on Demand
Monkeys Audio .ape
FLAC .flac
Apple Lossless .m4a
m4a Nero (AAC) .mp4
I re installed real alternative and saw that real media direct show splitter was in the installation. I also noted that in the file association real media, these are the ones added there rm, ram rmvb, I see that rm was not included.
I saw somewhere in the various illustrate files that certain d/l should occur before some other required d/l. I think one was real alternative before direct show, not sure at this point.
I think I have reached the end much to my dismay I don't seem to be able to make things work and I am sure I have stretched you to the limit and have probably tested you patience.
I will look to see if you have any addional thoughts after this post
Thank you LtData for putting up with a 72 year old trying to keep learn new things and keep my mind active. You have been gracious in your replies to me.
THANK YOU

Well, they probably thought of a new and "better" name for the clipboard, but I'm sure its still there in some form or another. As for "trying my patience", it is a little frustrating but I have no problem helping you solve this problem.
Now, I am still in wonderment of why the DirectShow decoder is not showing up in the list of decoders. Did you check to see if the file I mentioned above was in the decoders folder?
However, if you do have the Real Splitter installed from Real Alternative and the file still will not play in Windows Media player, then your dMC problems are moot as the Real Media splitter cannot play the file. You might want to try changing the extension of the file to ".ra" and see if you get better results playing it in WMP.
I'm back LtData. I did some deletions and and installations. I am no adept at copying to paint board etc and then pasteing some where else.
I checked the dmc config and under the codec tab Direct Show decoder(read) the following shows {flac, oga, ogv, ra,ram, rmvb and spx} one thing I noticed is that the box preceding the above list has nothing in it. I see that all the other items listed has 12.1 release above the lettering.
I have to assume then that direct show is not operational. I have tried to delete and reinstall direct show but I will get a msg that it is already installed and I need to reinstall. Keep trying but nother works there, hope you might have some info that will help..
Thanks

So the DirectShow Decoder does show up with ".ra .ram" and the like on it? Then it sounds like both the RealMedia splitter and the dMC DirectShow Decoder are installed properly. However, if WMP cannot play your ram file, then dMC will not be able to decode it.
wmp does not play the ram files and I tried again to convert and still get the msg. "Direct Show filter for ram is not installed". I notice in the dmc congfig. that the box in from the the codec file does not have any kind of a check mark in it while the other boxes some kind of mark in it like a cleft note. Also the other decorders in that box has " Release 12.1" above the other letters pertaining to the decoder. This leads me to believe that the direct show is not installed properly and I don't know how to get it there.
I tried to install the Direct Show from the illustrate codec instructions but I keep getting a msg that it is already installed.
I also found that in all the ra's that are listed there one was missing it was "rpm" I found that after looking at the directshow config. on my old cp.
Thanks

Try adding ".ram" to the config file. However, as I stated above, if WMP will not play the file, dMC cannot convert it.

This may be irrelevant, but I'll continue anyway. I seem to recall having similar problems with downloaded codecs not showing up in dMC configuration. In my case, I had downloaded the codecs, and installed them into the correct "Illustrate" folder. But in my (early days with dMC) innocence, I had overlooked the fact that most, if not all, codecs download as .exe files., and they needed to be double clicked once installed in the Illustrate folder before they were activated. Is it possible that this might be Java's problem?
Well LtData, I guess my quest is finally over. I cannot get real files to play in wmp. I have looked thru as much of wmp files as possible and I cannot find the codec that is apparently missing..
If response to your thought of adding ram to the config. I cannot find away to do it. The only item that shows up is in the codec which shows ram and if it did't I don't see away to put it in. I will mention that at one point during all my uninstalls and reinstalls, the direct show filter showed up and I could and did make sure that all rams were there.
The one thing that might work and thought I would ask you if you would know, I had it was eith 9.1 or 10 wmp on my old cp, which I had no problem converting. I have thought about uninstalling wmp 11 which is on my current cp and I found a site I could download one of the two.
The older auxilary file which you could test volume etc, I think was a great tool, to bad that it does not work.
The thing that bothers me about converting with the new 12.1 is, when I tried to convert this I don't understand "direct show filters for ram file types is not installed or audio file is corrupt [dDecoder::Open]".
At any rate I have really enjoyed being a part of Illustrate and while I am not able to use the converter, I will still check back from time to time, perhaps a way will be found for me, I have wondered if any other forum board members have had this type of problem.
Thanks

Do you have other real files that have converted in the past? Will they play in WMP and convert in dMC?
As for WMP playing the Real files, the files aren't really part of WMP but Windows, as the "RealMedia Splitter" is basically a DirectShow codec that enables decoding of real files to DirectShow-aware programs.
I have some real files I converted to wave on my old cp, I many try to copy them and see if they play on this cp.
Also, I came across something this evening that mentioned to install 11.5, tried to install it but after a period of time it gave a msg that the installtion might be corrupt and recomended that it not be installed. I know that with all the security settings I have that might be the reason. Wondered if you know what the problem might be.
Thanks
