is converting 98k in 0 seconds

Going from WAV to mp3 lame,I'm converting 2 files of @98k each. As soon as I click convert,the progress bar zooms from left to right and says conversion complete in 0 seconds. which would be great if something actually happened. But it didn't. Repeatedly. It's been perfect for over a year,now it's weird.
Any clues/ideas?

Never mind-IT changed the permissions on that computer without telling anybody.
