adaptive normalization?

I read the help on this and when i tried to use it in a conversion, the
window size was set at 6000 mseconds. How does this equate to the
length of a song? Why not use a minutes, seconds setting? Much less
confusing.

So, 180,000 m/sec is 3 minutes.

If i converted a 3 minute song with above settings, what happens?
If i convert a group of songs, what happens?

I ask because i have an ipod (a gift) and once i set the volume on it,
i've never had to adjust the volume. Where as, with a cd created using
dBPower and simple normalize, i'm constantly adjusting the volume.

PS: I still prefer dBPower for managing my music (converting, writing,
etc). Itunes software is pretty flaky on handling music file (lots of
shortcomings, my opinion) but the normalize is hard to beat.

The window size is just that, a small window on the whole file - it should be left small such as 6000ms (think of it as a look ahead buffer).

So what are the proper effects to have multi-songs normalized to the
same level?

Adpative is quite an agressive normalize designed for noisy (read in your car) where a quiet part of classical would not normally be heard.
