I have some Apple Lossless files that came from 24bit/44.1 WAV files. In iTunes, they are listed as 24bit ALAC files. However, there is no option in iTunes to transcode the files to 24bit WAV.

I tried using dMC, but whether I try to create FLAC files or WAV files from these 24bit ALAC files, dMC crashes. It just closes, and I get the Microsoft window that asks if I want to send an error message.

Any ideas? Is this not supported?

I didn't realize that 24-bit ALAC files existed. I assume you have tried transcoding to a 24-bit WAV and not a 16-bit WAV? That might be the problem, or the ALAC decoder might not, and probably does not, support 24-bit ALAC files.

All I can say is that, after encoding in iTunes, the Properties tab said it was a 24bit file. There is only a 16bit option in iTunes for decoding to WAV.

I've tried dbpowerAMP converter and iTunes. I may give Foobar2000 a shot next.

The guy who wrote the ALAC decoder never implemented 24 bit, I wil contact him and see if he is interested.

Hi Spoon,

Have you heard from the developer yet?

I have not asked yet - there might be a tagging issue I want to 'tag' on also, I have to schedule some testing myself - it will be next week.

Bump from the past! :smile2:

Has this ever been addressed?
