    CDWriter (Release 2 registered) problem

Creating a CD, in CDA format using release 2.
I'm getting static(?) during the last couple songs. The music is there and i can
hear it fine but also hear some static after a few seconds of "clean" music.
I hear the static using winamp and Dbplayer but not when i use the creative
    player......

I've tried both Standard Audio 74 and 80 minute as output. Also tried mp3 as
output. Only option i have is volumn normalization.

When playing the original CD, it sounds fine, no static.

Dont know where i'm messing up. Any ideas?

    thanks,
    savagcl

Are you copying the audio cd or did you first rip it and now you are making a new audio cd?

And if you ripped it first, what fromat did you rip it to? How do those files sound when played on the computer?

Was the original cd copy-protected maybe? That may affect ripping some tracks.

Re: CDWriter (Release 2 registered) problem

I ripped it first (it said "rip to RAM". so i dont know if the ripped files are
located on the HD, i cant find them. I told it to not erase the files but a search
for ".CDA" dont find anything.... Where might they be located?

The format was "audio CD", i can see them on the new cd as having a CDA
    extension.

CD is not copy-protected. I made a cd from this original a long time ago but it
got scratched somehow (not the original). The one i made before was fine only
difference was the cdwriter version and i dont think thats the problem.

Using a Standard CD-R, 80 minute CD as output.

    Still confused.
    thanks, Christina.

Well, you wouldn't rip to the .cda format, that's something that only exists on an audio cd.

The riping is done to whatever default setting you had. Luckily it was wav for you. You can set that, you know. The result ended up in whatever folder was specified for it - maybe C;\Converted Music or something else based on a naming convention again specified in the options.

Anyway, if the wav file is not good that's because the cd either is defective in that area, or it had copy protection of sorts.

You can try to turn off Table of contents detection and rip again - at least those tracks which didn't work out well. Make sure you know where they go and what they'll be called and what format they will be in. Explore the dMC Audio CD Input options for a bit before you do so, to get familiar with all the settings you can manipulate.

The reason dMC created wav files was because savagcl selected Audio CD as the convert to option. When creating an Audio CD dCW initially converts all the files to WAV format and the location of these files is determined by how you have configured dCW.

What happens if you turn off the normalize effect. Does the static disappear?

    OK.
I changed the output to a wave format (44100, 16 bit, 2 channel, cd quality). I
only did the rip part so didnt mess up another blank cd.

I also turned off the normalize effect.

The static is still there on the outputted wave formatted tracks.

As another issue, (dont know if its related or not) I'm having a problem with
the Directshow player. When trying to view a movie trailer from the yahoo\
movies page, I get the error that states "couldnt create the directshow player".
Could this be affecting the ripping problem?

    Thanks for the help,
    savagcl

Don't think the DirectShow player is an issue, but in truth I don't know what that is.

Did you play with table of contents detection on or off? That's from the down little arrow to the right side of Options > Standard cd player emulation .

Re: CDWriter (Release 2 registered) problem

Sorry Christina, forgot to mention that table of contents in previous msg.
    It was (is) unchecked,

I have all 3 controllers (2 primary, 1 secondary) set to DMA if available.

1st primary (Device 0) is set to Ultra DMA mode 2.
Device1 is set to DMA if available but not available.

2st primary (Device 0) is set to Ultra DMA mode 5.
Device1 is set to DMA if available but not available.

Secondary Device 0 and device 1 is set to DMA if available but not available.

When i said it sounded like static, maybe thats to strong, more like a
low-level (but audible) crackle. Kinda like dragging a saw across a metal
pipe while wearing earmuffs but still hearing the music.

    thanks,
    savagcl

Follow my instructions on Christina's link on how to restore DMA mode.
