Having Trouble Creating an Audio CD with WMA Files
Hello, everyone.
I am having difficulty creating a CD out of songs that I legally downloaded from http://music.msn.com
All of the files are WMA, and I first purchased Winamp 5.1 Pro, but found out that the decoder would not work, so I could not burn the files onto a CD. I then purchased dbpowerAMP CD Writer, and as I just went to create a CD with WMA songs (all downloaded from MSN), and it said that the songs were encrypted, so the decoder could not decode it. I hope I haven't wasted my money twice. Someone, please help. I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Having Trouble Creating an Audio CD with WMA Files
The website at msn.com (following your thread) indicates that you can burn these tracks to cd using Windows Media Player 10. Because these files are encrypted wma files, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to burn them to cd in any other program. You can find instructions for this here: http://music.msn.com/help/burn. If you have an earlier version of Windows than XP, you may be able to follow the advice here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/faq.aspx*7_3.
Another option is to record these tracks using dBpowerAMP Music Convert (dMC) Auxilary Input (for directions, see this FAQ here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=7318 ).
All or nearly all of the major legal pay-for-download services use some form of encryption or DRM (digital rights management) measures to discourage copying of files whether for illegal or for legal means.
Winamp 5.1 Pro and dB CD Writer are both good programs and I would hope that you will be able to get much use from them but they will not do for this particular problem.
Best wishes,
Bill

Re: Having Trouble Creating an Audio CD with WMA Files
Remember to test the programs before you purchase. dCW has a 30-day trial for you to make sure that it works before you buy it.
Also, there is a DRM and Copy-protection forum here (http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/forumdisplay.php?f=52) and a post regarding protected WMAs here http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=7406 and here http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=7422
