winamp is probably just checking the file names, or more precisely the extensions... dap on the other hand scans for ID tags and other data in the file...
that's probably teh reason
I don't see why. I'm pretty sure WinAmp only examines the ID tags as well. My CPU also ramps up to 100% during the scan, which indicates that it's not just a network performance issue. I'm pretty sure that it's a performance related bug.

Winamp doesn't scan the ID tags until the file is displayed in the playlist. Note that this is only if the file is added to a playlist, not to the Media Library.
I've got to agree, I'm trying to add 10,000 songs into my collection (which is not extreme in this day and age) and it is going to take days at the current rate of going...I could copy the actual files across the (100mbps) network a lot faster...what is the problem? I thought Musicmatch Jukebox was slow! I'm not at all happy - reading ID3 tags or not, this is unacceptably slow.
Install the latest dAP Beta then dMC R11.5 beta over the top (it had the mp3 decoder re-written) and is probabbly faster.

Spoon...absolutely correct...much faster now. Sorry for the slow response to your post, but spot on dude!
I should just add...a great thing about this app is that subsequent scans of the library are very fast...unlike MusicMatch...which basically makes a complete scan just to add say...30 tracks...cheers dude...money well spent!!! :smile2:
