    Monkeys Audio WOW!

    Monkeys is sooo fast!!!
It took 1 min 46 sec to rip an entire CD....Hmmmm.....

It seems like it's way faster to rip in APE format than Mp3....The average Mp3 rip takes about 10 min for me @ 320kbps
    Bizzarre!

I thought Ape would be slow since it produces a much bigger file.

    Can NE 1 explain this???

      Re: Monkeys Audio WOW!

10 minutes to rip a CD to mp3? What are your system specs?
Edit: then again, it IS 320kbps. How long does it take to rip at, for example, 192kbps?

I can't remeber how long it took to do a 192kbps ...I have been pretty much using 320 since I figured out how to change it.

2.1 OC or not? And what's the model number?
Your FSB is probably 333 if its not overclocked.
As for how long it SHOULD take to rip to 320kbps mp3.. don't know, haven't used mp3 except for friends (at 192) since I found Ogg and Monkey's.

              You either have a 2700+ or 3000+ with 333FSB or a 3200+ with a 400FSB. With your ram, I don't think your running the 3200+ though.

                  Re: Monkeys Audio WOW!

2400+ means your running at 2.0Ghz clock.
Anyway, try ripping a CD to 192kbps mp3 and see how long that takes.

Hmm. Guess mp3 at high bitrates consumes more CPU as it tries to digitize the signal. Kinda obvious, but still in need of mentioning. If I may ask, why 320kbps and not just a different format?

                              Re: Monkeys Audio WOW!

It's all been kinda of a learning process for me..... I am very anal about the quality of my music. I started with the standard 128kbps and started noticing minute flaws (I have sensitive ears) and decided to go with the best possible quality mp3 bitrate. After I had ripped my 350+ CD collection, I then learned of lossless. So now I must re rip my entire collection to APE and also keep my Mp3s for my portable player even tho I'm not happy with the quality I hear.
I'm also considering selling my Nomad 40GB mp3 player....especially since I cannot find an interface to play it through my car stereo. I was thinking "this is awesome I will never have to change a CD ever again" DOH!!!!!

So to sum it up I'm anal and want the best music copys possible!!! LOL :komisch7:
