What do you mean by "illegal characters"? Are you trying to convert something that contains Unicode characters?

If it's unicode, then the conversion is a no-no.
Just a DBCS(Double Byte Character Set) path/filename which may use some characters that considered as illegel one. Those are "|", "\", "?", "*", ">", "<" and """(quotation mark).Originally Posted by LtData
e.g. The "&*12450;" in BIG5 encoding is represented by 0xC7 0x7C, and 0x7C is "|" in ASCII and be converted to 0x20(normally) and it becomes to 0xC7 0x20, this combination doesn't exist in the convertion table(nls) and system represent it as "?".
As a result, invalid path error occurs and the temporary file cannot be moved to destination/file cannot be converted with non-CLI codecs.
what does 0xNumberNumber mean? I don't get what ASCII is....a type of language? font?
ASCII is the representation of characters (letters and such) from binary numbers.
and 0xblah is normally a Hex number.
I see. Thanks.

Wow Spoon, things sure have changed in the release candidate. I love the new look for dMC Configuration. It should make things easier to find, especially with the "copy to clipboard" button now.
Should make seeing what people have installed much easier.

I did this - it didn't offer to uninstall so I installed straight over the original version, but the Right Click "Convert To" context menu has stopped working along with the tips and the properties sheet. I've tried turning these off and re-booting and then turning them back on but they still don't work.
Any Ideas?
Thanks - PLC
PS The Beta has cured a problem that I had with release 11 not reading certain MP3 files.
Why couldn't you uninstall?
Firstly the post from LtData indicated that you shouldn't let it uninstall the original version and secondly it didn't offer to uninstall when I installed the Beta. I assumed it would just overwrite and keep the current configuration.
Looks like I'll have to try uninstalling & re-installing if nobody has any other suggestions.
Thanks - PLC
Re-installed the Beta & context menu now working again :smile2:

I'm stupid, sorry.
Yes, you should install right over the first installation.
If all else fails, uninstall, reboot, install, then reboot.
