New Version does not Covert MP3's

Since installing the new version of the dbPowerAmp converter, I can no longer
    rip to MP3.
I get the following error "The CODEC required to compress..... mp3 could not be opened"
Is this because I don't have the Power Pack?
If so why didn't I have this problem with the older version of dBPowerAmp?

It's because now mp3 encoders are subject to royalties, thus only holders of Powerpack have access to encoding to mp3 (by any mp3 codecs). http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=5399

perhaps Spoon needs to change the error message to reflect something like "mp3 trial encoder expired and needs powerpack" or something to that effect so it is more obvious?

It does, you try to rip to mp3 and an expired page appears, also the message line under the first message should say a license is missing.

Wait a minute. If older versions don't have the MP3 limitations, why is everyone using the newer version?

with each newer version there are either newer features and or bug fixes. and many pay for the use of the powerpack anyway.

:sigh: I'm not old enough to pay for anything yet. :(

Oh well, I have one more year to go before I'll have enough money to buy PowerPack. I do support dBpowerAMP.... it's one of the best converters around.

Re: New Version does not Covert MP3's

thats ok but like i said in the other thread if you want the latest version and still want to encode to mp3, then follow that link i supplied. but in the end i think many will only encode to mp3 if they really have to, otherwise they will use other free codecs like ogg or wma etc....

OGG always sounds better than MP3...regardless of most bitrates....the only problem is, there are no such things as portable OGG CD Players.......if there were, I would have converted all my music to OGG at 96 kbps a second and go to school with it.

i don't know about ogg cd players but there are portable mp3players like rio Karma that support ogg and flac and perhaps some other portable players do now also.

is it possible to physically open up a portable MP3 CD player and somehow add the OGG codec in?
