    ATRAC3 (.omg) Codec Support?

Can anyone please tell me how to convert .omg files to MP3.
I dont care whether they keep their tag.
Currently all my music files are trapped in sonicstage :vmad: , only available to copy to MD

    Thanks in advance,

    :D :smile2: I can do it now!

Use WMP9 in XP and select the sonicstage file directory.
You can directly play the *.omg files and burn them to cd.
to convert to MP3 simply put the burnt CD in and convert

      Re: ATRAC3 (.omg) Codec Support?

Hi, I've got the same problem with my NW-HD1 omg files. I previously installed Windows 64 Bit Edition (HUGE mistake) and lost all my mp3s. Most of them were on my player but because the new Windows was a joke it prevented me accessing the files. So I've finally re-installed XP and can access the files.

      1) Did you lose the tags in the end?

      2) Where is the directory for the omg files you mentioned?

Thanks if you can help. I need my m3 library back.

I dumped all my ATRAC 3 files in a folder on the desktop and then located them through WMP9 using XP, and they wouldn't play.

Also using the update software with SonicStage that lets you play unconverted mp3s on your NW-HD1 or NW-HD3, it comes up with an error message saying the device doesn't support this file type. God I hate Sony. :vmad: :vmad:

            :thumbdown
I find under W98 and W2000 that WMP9 WILL play .omg files.
But it will NOT write them to CD in any any format. It cannot convert them as earlier posts suggest. So is this capability they refer to specific to XP (which I don't have), or another delusion? :vmad:

The NW-HD1 is getting a firmware upgrade for 'native mp3 playback', maybe with that they'll let you convert the omg files back to mp3.

                Re: ATRAC3 (.omg) Codec Support?

I have just downloaded WMP9 on my version of XP. Media Player will not recognize the OMG. file at all.

Could somebody possibly help and tell me if my method is wrong.

I ultimately want the OMG. onto CD

                Thanks in advance

Point WMP at the specific .omg file. It will play it, but it will not allow you to copy it or write it to any other device such as a CD - despite what other posts say!
Sony make a CD player which plays ATRAC3plus and MP3 format CD's - that's what I have. But they don't provide s/w to convert Atrac back to anything else. So I can't see them doing it for the Network walkman mentioned in another post.
You'll just have to accept that once you have only the .omg version of a track you cannot convert it to anything else other than by playing it and recording it. Very unsatisfactory - but that's the arrogance of Sony!
My advice - save and keep tracks as MP3 on your computer even if it's in the SonicStage library (or on a CD) - and convert to .omg only for the Sony device using the dreaded SonicStage s/w.
If all you have is the .omg file - tough!

Thread locked. There is an entire thread dedicated to this in the DRM and Copy Protection forum. It is very unlikely that dMC will ever support this format, mostly due to the DRM element.
