    Hardrive player/Digital Music Storage

I am at a point where I am considering getting a digital music player and also storing all my CDs on my new computer now that I ahve a 250 gig RAID setup. The ipod gets good reviews, but I also want a device that supports open source. So maybe the iriver or neuros or rio devices. Are any of these really "bad" devices or is it a matter of preference? I figure I can convert all my CDs to FLAC or ape and then convert from there. I also want to be able to use the devicein my car. I have a kenwood unit that has an aux. input. Or are there other devices I should consider?

I think it is which player you like the look and feel of the most, or which features (say crossfade of a Rio Karma) that count the most.
