How the heck did he have the gumption to register and post this? Could this registration have been also by a bot of sorts?

Is there a password given in a graphic image to enter to prevent automatic registrations?

        Re: Waaah! Spam attack!

some spammers do register and have done in the past here. i don't know why. as far as i know vbulletin support staff have always stated a bot can't register and post.

there is no graphic password to register. we tried it once but got complaints from people who could not see well. so it was better to turn that off.

          Bummer! :thumbdown

A bot can't register? I guess smart ones can ....

How about completing the registration after a confirmation email is sent back? That's a bit harder to fake.

from memory we turned off having to confirm registration by email because thats how spoon wanted it. a little too open for me but the reality is it hasn't had devestating effects other than being a pain in the backside.
but like spoon said if it continues we will make it registered only for posting and take things from there one step at a time.

it's a pain in the butt but spam is something we have to live with unfortunately.

ok i just put a ban on his IP 132.213.202.225
see if that slows it down.

Damnit all, this resolves to a subdomain on a server at a university close to my home town: http://uqo.ca .

yeh that's the problem with putting a ban on an IP as there are genuine users that might be on the same IP as well. which is why after a while i like to unban IP's again once it is settled. even better when only registered users can post :D

Not to worry, it's a forgotten proxy server, most probably. You won't be blocking any hard working students, not even any lazy ones, I'm sure of that :D

And yes, registered users are the only way to go. :komisch12
