    Waaah! Spam attack!

Looks like myself and Donny have had to clear up after a major spam attack, all promoting one Russian site. It must have been done with some kind of script.

I can't moderate the skins forum so there's a few in there still if someone wants to get the feather duster out.

well looks like banning the IP and only registered users can post is working for now. this happens once or twice per year.

Well, maybe you've just been lucky :D More ane more spammers use home-made bots. I've even had a variant of the Nigeria scam emailed to me from my website email form somehow. I had to put in more anti-spam measures including a graphic password re-entry.

Anyway, a search on the keyword that he used reveals 3 posts still remaining: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/search.php?searchid=66873

Nah, it's not about any cholesterol lowering drug at all. It's about the hyperlink disguised under the drug's name which takes one to some russian web site of possibly quite dubious ilk. The mention of that very common and useful drug combined with this forum's search engine's ranking, insures that these posts would pop up whenever somebody searches for that keyword and may actually click on the darn link out of curiosity. It's spam of the sneakiest kind.

It comes from an American Address, if he returns I will try to get his internet account closed (you can post a legal letter stating that this site is private property...):

State of Ohio Network NET-STATE-OHIO (NET-66-144-0-0-1)

Could be a spoofed IP. A lot of machines are now used as 'zombies' for sending spam or denial of service attacks. Still, usually when that happens several IP addresses are used instead of one, but maybe this is just a wannabe spammer .

                              Added:
Actually, that would appear to be the case - Port 21 (FTP) is open on that IP address.
