Is it possible to produce a beta to test this functionality (assuming it's just latest stable plus this change)?

I have no idea of the work involved, or of the AssetUPnP release cycle, but there looks to be a number of people now interested in this feature and I wouldn't want it to lose its momentum (as the original requester of the functionality did).
