    New trial user - w/C2 pointers = inaccurate vs w/o C2 pointers = success

Hello, I'm a new user and I'm confused. Just found this and am planning to rip my CD library finally. One of the main reasons is the significant error correction that is possible and the C2 pointers are a big part of it. I've followed the setup instructions, the drive and offset are recognized and am getting weird results. I've tried it on multiple discs (Blues Traveler - 4, A Tribe Called Quest - Natural Ingredients, Pink Floyd - Animals, Led Zeppelin - II, Luscious Jackson - Natural Ingredients, Michael Hedges - Taproot) and it happens to all of them. When the C2 pointers are on the result is "insecure" which seems due to not re-ripping thousands of frames eg:
    Drive & Settings
    ----------------

    Ripping with drive 'disk1 [MATSHITA - DVD-R UJ-898]', Drive offset: 102, Overread Lead-in/out: No
AccurateRip: Active, Using C2: Yes, Cache: 4 KB, FUA Cache Invalidate: No
Pass 1 Drive Speed: 40, Pass 2 Drive Speed: Max
Ultra:: Vary Drive Speed: No, Min Passes: 2, Max Passes: 4, Finish After Clean Passes: 2
Bad Sector Re-rip:: Drive Speed: Max, Maximum Re-reads: 75

    Encoder: FLAC -compression-level-5 -verify

    Extraction Log
    --------------

    Track 1: Ripped LBA 32 to 21035 (4:40) in 2:34. Filename: /Users/mweinman/Music/Blues Traveler/Four/01 Blues Traveler - Run-Around.flac
    Insecure [Pass 1, Ultra 1 to 2, Re-Rip 4220 Frames]
    Insecure [Pass 1, Ultra 1 to 2, Re-Rip 4220 Frames]
** Aborted: Have to ReRip 4220 Frames, Re-Rip Limit Set to 100 Frames

    Track 2: Ripped LBA 21035 to 44975 (5:19) in 2:35. Filename: /Users/mweinman/Music/Blues Traveler/Four/02 Blues Traveler - Stand.flac
    AccurateRip: Inaccurate (confidence 200) Insecure [Pass 1, Ultra 1 to 2, Re-Rip 4841 Frames]
    AccurateRip: Inaccurate (confidence 200) Insecure [Pass 1, Ultra 1 to 2, Re-Rip 4841 Frames]
** Aborted: Have to ReRip 4841 Frames, Re-Rip Limit Set to 100 Frames

But when the C2 pointers are off the result is "Accurate" eg:[/B]

What is going on, am I doing something wrong, what are the rips loosing because they are not dealing with the frame errors?

    Thanks,

    Matt

    Hey Matt,

some drives pretend that they can handle C2 pointers but they can't. This leads to a behaviour like you've seen. Turn C2 poibters off and forget about it. AccurateRip can give you bitperfect rips even without C2 pointers.

Agree, I have seen the same behavior re: C2 pointers (only 1 of the 5 drives I have used actually used C2 properly; despite the fact that all 5 drives "report" that they use C2. As @Dat Ei notes, with AccurateRip matching, C2 is irrelevant.
